“A pleasant night”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Stayed here after seeing Mumford and Sons at the NEC. Easy to find and welcoming. Bed was incredibly comfortable and we slept so well. Breakfast was decent, though not as posh as I expected for the cost of it.

The only thing that would stop me giving 5 stars is how very cold the room was when we got there. It took a long time to warm up. It was also a little difficult to find our room. We could have done with a little more guidance.

I have one complaint about my experience at the Hall so I'm going to get it out of the way now because it really bugs me, we arrived at the hall by taxi with everything we needed for a family wedding which due to the snow was a lot and the reception was very unusual, a small desk, well inside the building, through 3 sets of doors with all our baggage to be greated by a rather frosty receptionist. I know it was snowing outside but there's just no need, directions were given on how to operate the 350 year old door and of we trapsed with all our things, (no offer of assistance through many many more fire doors up two flights of stairs. It was just not easy with so many things to carry. Now on to the postitives and there are many! The room was wood panelled and lovely, the bathroom was small but nicely decorated and very clean. Despite the snow the room was lovely and warm and obviously the views with the snow on the gardens were lovely. The wedding itself took place in a gorgeous hall with an elaborately decorated ceiling and wonderful views. The Lounge and bar were cosy and easy going and the bar staff helpful and friendly. The main meal was delicious, The starter was a Goats cheese on Salad, I heard no complaints from anyone, the standard main was Roast pork, Potatoes & Crackling with a Steamed Veg selection went down really well and the Veggie main was a Mixed mushroom and Pea Risotto which had a lovely texture and creamy flavour. The dessert a Pear and walnut roulade with berry compote was also delicious and for nut allergies there was a tasty chocolate topped cheesecake! Again no complaints from anyone at our table. The room was then cleared and the disco started and later a snach buffet put on for those only able to attend the reception and those still peckish which was standard buffet fayre but all good. The main star of the show though apart from the happy couple were the wonderful serving staff, very patient with the children running around and requests from the guests and this gorgeous old building steeped in history. We were also advised the front doesn't lock so for those in high spirits at the end of the night we all ran out to enjoy the Snow and built a Snow bride. Breakfast also had a great selection and the food was lovely! Great place for couples or family fun.

Room Tip: Rooms vary massively from those with old fashioned decor to more modern rooms with old furniture in...

I had arranged for my parents to stay at this hotel recently (18 Jan) for their birthday (mother's 70th), but they were unable to do so because of the severe weather conditions in the area of the hotel and from their departure area (South Wales). They had tried to leave for as long as possible before travelling/cancelling in case the weather forecast wouldn't be as bad and by doing so incurred the full nightly charge. They telephoned the hotel and tried to explain the situation and cancel or possibly arrange a transfer of date, but to no avail.
I appreciate the cancellation policy, however in such circumstances as severe weather, I feel some consideration should be given to the travellers who have to cancel due to circumstances beyond their control. Such customer service considerations separate the lower end hotels and the exceptional ones.

Excellent, clean and pretty graded listed hotel, great service and lovely gardens to wonder around. My partner and i had the 3 course set menu which was amazing! Our room was very comfortable and clean with views of the gardens.

We had the overnight deal with dinner and breakfast a package from travelzoo this was fantastic value and I would definitely stay here again for a night away.

My finance and I stayed here in December 2012 as a group on offer, I discovered this hotel on group on as I had no knowledge of it before hand.
The beautiful hotel is like going back in time. It looks like something from a film.
In the hallway on route to our room there was a light out which made it difficult to find our way to the stairs. A member of staff was showing someone to the room so was clearly aware of the broken light, however it was still like it the following morning.
The bedroom is a large newly decorated room and was lovely, It was very cold when we walked in to the room though and we had to turn the heating on ourself which was not what you want on a cold December day.
We went to dinner which was included in the group on deal. We had the Christmas dinner and the food was great, The restaurant was cosy and elegant and with the Christmas decorations and music it had a magical feel.
By the time we got back to the room the heating had kicked in and it had warmed up.
The bed was very comfortable and after a goods nights sleep we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast.
All in all this is a great hotel. I will return and I will recommend,

The property is magnificent overlooking beautiful gardens. Due to the nature of this small historic house this is a boutique hotel, with limited facilities, but that’s understood. We stayed in the best room, for one night, with a four poster bed and a deep roll top bath for just over £100 between Christmas and New Year 2012 – what a bargain!

Unfortunately the hotel had just 6 other guests and because it had very few visitors, only 2 or 3 staff were on duty. We wanted a light snack rather than a formal dinner so the friendly receptionist/manager/barman (all the same person) did his best as the chef was not yet on duty. Our sandwich was fine but for some people this lack of choice would be unacceptable.
With so few people, it lacked atmosphere but I was happy to ‘drink in’ the spectacular history in peace.

I had a wonderful time in this hotel and sincerely hope it does well. It would make a breathtaking location for a wedding.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house

Myself and my husband stayed here on the 15th december 2012 for a night with the party night included. On check in the staff were fantastic and very helpful and friendly. The room/suite was beautiful, very clean and more than we expected. We stayed for 1 night and went for the 3 course meal and party evening which was lovely. The food was rwally nice, plenty of it and hot. The service was second to none and the pleasantness made it a lovely stay. The party night afterwards was also really good with a great disco and bar. In the morning again the staff and food were fantastic and after breakfast we went for a walk in the gardens which was lovely.
I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and we are hoping to stay again soon for our anniversary!
Fantastic place great staff top food and lovely rooms.

Room Tip: We chose the superior room over a standard double and it was well worth the difference in money.
