“Lovely hotel, close to ICC and Canals”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Stayed here for two nights. Room was very clean and tidy. Light wood furniture made it a very airy room. Lovely toiletries provided by Neutrogena which were replenished on the 2nd day. Had a snack in the bar area when we arrived, which was delicious. Steak sandwich cooked blue, lovely crispy chips, mediterranean veggie wrap and butter-nut squash risotto were very good. Service for breakfast was very good - breakfast a bit average (buffet style) I want a nice fried egg - not watery scrambled. But there was a veggie option and soya milk (not always available) The staff who served us were excellent, very smiley and friendly. Lovely comfortable bed, gave me two brilliant nights sleep.

Room Tip: We stayed in 414 which looks out onto a quietish road which is better than the other side, where the...

After reading some of the reviews on trip advisor i have to say we were quite dubious about our stay at the hilton garden inn, but luckily were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a fantastic location, right near the Waterfront which has a great atmosphere, lots of friendly bars and great places to eat, and only a relatively short walk into the town centre. The hotel itself was nicely decotated and extremelly clean. We wer greeted in an efficient and professional manner (granted not overly friendly) but definately curtious. Our room was a good size, not huge but happliy fitted double bed, wardrobe, desk and comfy chair. Bathroom again small but nice and bright and clean. We stayed on floor 5 over looking the main square so did expect it to be noisey, however found it to be one of the quietest hotel rooms yet, despite it being a fri / sat night and having the window open. This is not a luxury hotel but very good standard for the price paid adn would definately not hesitate in staying again

The hotel is situated in a great location for the NIA, Symphony Hall and Birmingham Rep, as well as a good choice of restaurants and bars. The city centre and shopping areas are a 10 to 15 minute walk away.
The hotel looks great from the outside, clean and modern, but rooms are surprisingly small for a Hilton and bathrooms are tiny.
However, what was most disappointing on our stay was the "legendary Hilton breakfast". We arrived for breakfast at about 9am and there was a queue of people waiting, The restaurant did not appear to be particularly busy, but the tables were strewn with used cutlery and crockery which hadn't been cleared. Along with a number of other guests, we were asked to wait in the bar, which was also full of dirty plates and cups. Eventually when there were about 20 people waiting, we were all told to go through to the restaurant where they had managed to clear a few tables. We waited around 10 minutes without being served - no offer of tea/coffee, toast or choice of eggs - in fact the staff didn't speak to us at all. When I eventually saw another guest foraging amongst dirty cups and saucers to find the dregs of a pot of coffee and help himself, we left. On leaving, we advised the waitress that we wouldn't be staying for breakfast and she seemed surprised. I'm not sure if it's worse to provide such bad service or be completely unaware that you are! I did go to reception to tell them that we weren't having breakfast and the reason why, but they appeared uninterested.
As a Hilton Honors Diamond member, our breakfast would have been free - not even that was enough to make us stay. There's plenty of nearby places to have breakfast for far less than the Hilton would charge and a Wetherspoons in the nearby Paradise Forum that does a full English for about £3.

Super hotel in a great central location. We have stayed here a couple of times over the last few years and always pleased with service, room etc. The only negative comment is that this year the breakfast was not as good. Parts of the buffet ran out of food and it took us to prompt staff to top up. Overall would recommend.

Stayed here for 2 nights in November 2012. We were in town for a concert in Symphony Hall so the location was perfect. The hotel is clean, modern and rooms are smallish but provide all that is needed for a city visit. Liked the Apple tv/computer and free wifi is a bonus. Reception staff were friendly if not always well informed about what to do in the City. Our main issue was with the breakfast/dinner arrangements and this may prevent us going back.
On the first morning(Monday), we arrived for breakfast about 8.30. The restaurant was almost empty and there were 2 members of staff on duty. We ordered our hot drinks and helped ourselves to the buffet which was sparse, as was the availability of appropriate dishes. Had to chase up the drinks after 10 minutes. They had been sitting , stewing , on the till desk. There was little food left and the food was lukewarm. Not good for a Hilton! Or for any hotel for that matter. We had dinner in the hotel the following night . There were only 2 tables occupied but it took 25 minutes to get our food which was only average and a bit overcooked. The following morning we had breakfast and the buffet was much better stocked and more staff were on duty. Food was still a bit lukewarm but edible nevertheless. One other matter needing addressed is the colection of dirty room service dishes outside room doors. Some days not picked up tilll early evening the next day. Not good for a Hilton! This hotel has a lot going for it and could easily be top notch with some staff training and better management of the restaurant .

We stayed for one night, on a Sunday and could not really fault the place at all.
We arrived at about 5pm, checked in within 5 minutes - got a parking space ok in the car park, which is a bit of a tight squeeze but manageable !

Room was on the second floor and was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with all you need. Bed was very comfy and the shower hot and powerful. Nice touch is the Apple Mac as a tv, very swish!

Booked breakfast and this was very nice, lots of choice - all the food was hot and tasty.

Surrounding area was great, right near the canals with plenty of bars and places to eat. Was nice to walk round there even on a cold November evening!

All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful, no faults at all.

Would definitely stay again here, it was excellent value for money at 70 quid b&b.
Cant wait to go back!

I took my partner to Birmingham for his birthday to see a gig in the O2 academy. Having lived in Birmingham before I booked the Hilton Garden Inn because it has a great central location and was within walking distance of the city centre and the O2 academy.

When we arrived at the hotel and went to reception to check in we were immediately asked whether we would be staying in the hotel in the evening or going out. We explained we had plans outside of the hotel for some of the evening and were then told that was good because there was a large private party was taking place in the evening and a dj would be playing until 12.00 a.m. As a common courtesy I would have expected to be at least warned about this in advance of my stay in case I deemed the accommodation to no longer suit my needs, so I could organise something else.

The room was clean and fresh. We had an imac which operated both as a computer, and television which was handy and everything else was as you would expect from a Hilton.

We returned from our night out shortly after 12.00 a.m. so I have no idea if the party was disruptive, it certainly wasn't to us.

All in all a good stay.

Room Tip: When booking ask if there is any functions booked for the evening and if so ask for a room on a high...
