“Ok cheap hotel, terrible breakfast”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Stayed for one night - cheap hotel, so room ok. Didn't live up to pictures on website. Best thing was free/plenty of parking and wi-fi!
However, lack of management evident with dirty areas - e.g if you use the stairs, which for a two storey hotel is not unusual, and the room off the help your self breakfast area - both off putting.
Paid extra for breakfast - terrible. Limited hot selection - although we had breakfast half an hour after the start time- empty trays, one rasher of bacon left and cold scrambled egg - no evidence of any more being produced. Limited other selection - even a problem finding me marmalade!
I'll try somewhere else next time I'm in Birmingham.

I stayed here one night after looking at the reviews on TA and thought it would likely be the best of a pretty rum selection of hotels in the location I needed. And this was bounre out: while nothing majorly wrong here, rooms clean, staff friendly, good car park, neither would this be the place for anything other than a business stay. It has been done-up in the now ubiquotous sub-boutique hotel manner, but is really only meant (and caters for) the business traveller. There was no air-con in the room, the buffet breakfast was OK but a narrow choice, and getting in and out of the car park, onto the main road is not something for the faint hearted. Thus, OK is you are in Birmingham on business and need somewhere to park you and your stuff, but I would not consider this for a leisure stay.

Room Tip: You'll want to keep the window open at night so try to get nearer the back

We have been to Birmingham twice and we have stayed in this hotel both times and will continue to do so every time we are in town - this should really say it all! Great service and great staff! Bedrooms are very tastefully decorated and give you that homely feel as opposed to the cold, hotel feel. The hotel takes ownership for any issues you may have, no matter how small it is, and deals with it swiftly. Food is of high standard as well. Highly recommend this all rounded hotel to anyone on holiday or doing business in Birmingham!

My criticism relates to the service, or lack of it, in the restaurant on the evening of our one night stay. We sat down at 8.20 in a restaurant which, apart from one other couple, was empty. The table next to ours was covered in dirty dishes which were not removed the whole time we were there.
The starter arrived 40 minutes after our arrival and the main course 45 minutes later at which time there was no one else in the restaurant. The food was very mediocre but by the time we got it we would have eaten almost anything!
When checking out next morning I explained to the receptionist the events of the night before. She was shocked and took my email address in order that the manager could get back to me, he Never did. I rang a week later and again was told I would be contacted, again..Nothing. Bad service is one thing but to be ignored is unacceptable.

I sayed here for 2 nights on a buiness trip and paid a very good price. I was expecting a real budget hotel but the standard was very good and the room itself compared to other higher level chains. Overall it was a good stay and I would stay again without a second thought. I didnt eat an evening meal but breakfast was Ok and had all the usual - cereal / pastries and english breakfast on a self serve basis. There is a secdure car park which was good and plenty of parking unlike some other hotels.

We stayed at the Clarion Collection for 1 night between September 8 and September 9. When we arrived, we had to wait for about 10 minutes before someone came to the reception desk so we could check-in. We were barely explained where was our room and had to look for in in the hotel. The ground floor smells of humidity and there are some water stains on the wall leading to the restaurant. We were happy to have a room on the first floor as it does not smell humidity. Room was clean but the restroom has probably been cleaned very fast... There were some shampoo stains on the wall and large water stains on the sides of the bath. The room was of good size. The hotel is about 30 to 40 minutes walk from the city center. We must say the breakfast was good and hot. However there was a misunderstanding about the breakfast time. The reception lady had told us it ended at 1000 but when we arrived at 0930 they told us to pick what we wanted as they were taking out the rest... Overall, we would probably not go back there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the ground floor.

Lovely hotel on the Hagley Road in Birmingham with bus stop outside to take you into the city centre. Spacious, quiet and well equipped rooms and extremely friendly and helpful reception staff. Secure parking. I'm a pretty fastidious customer, and I returned to this hotel within the week. Only downside is the cleanliness of the public areas; carpets needed vacuuming, bar tables needed cleaning and paintwork definitely needs redoing. Restaurant food was good, although there were a few menu options not available which was annoying. Would definitely recommend as an extremely good value hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for odd numbers
