“Disappointing, NO commentary - surely they could employ a guide.”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Last week I went on one of the narrow boat trips from Sherborne Wharf; it was extremely disappointing. There was no commentary at all, just the safety announcement at the beginning.

Surely there are suitable guides available that this company could use (or learn from) to bring the canals and local history 'alive'.

A good knowledgeable and entertaining guide is essential especially when the weather is very dull, cold, and wet.

“Children are likely to find this boring.”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

This tour is spoilt by the impersonal taped commentary; if a local person with good knowledge of the history of the canal system and some of the sights that we passed by had been employed to give a more personal commentary then I would have found this more interesting. The children (and some adults) looked completely bored and after about 20 minutes started getting a fidgety. I would recommend spending your hour walking along the canal path and watching a barge going through one of the locks rather than sit on this narrow boat.

“Tour time should be halved.”
Reviewed July 12, 2011

The area around Brindley place and the Wharf is really smart and trendy, full of cafes, restaurants and bars. Because of this, I did think the canal ride was just going to travel through a series of canals with a mixture of new and re-developed canalside properties but this is not entirely the case. Unfortunately, the canal ride takes 65 minutes and during quite a large percentage of the ride. the passengers are taken through some sad looking areas where the only outstanding features are that of derelict walls covered in graffiti. The narration on the boat is pre-recorded (understandably as the company are doing tours every something past the hour) but because there is nothing to comment on canalside the narration just stops for 5-10 (long) mintues at a time, leaving the passengers with neither nothing to look at nor to imagine. It seems a shame that these pauses are not even filled with music just to lighten the mood. I was really looking forward to coming on the canals as not many places can boast the history that Birmingham has, and I do feel this ride did not do it any justice. I have a good appreciation of history and a pretty good imagination but in all honesty this ride is much too long for what there is to see.
