Owner description: Aston Hall is a magnificent seventeenth century red-brick mansion situated in a picturesque public park on the north side of Birmingham. It also boasts the title of being the first historic building to be opened as a public museum in 1858 by Queen Victoria. Built between 1618 and 1635 for Sir Thomas Holte and home to James Watt Junior from 1817-1848, Aston Hall is steeped in history. The last conventional Jacobean house erected in England, which today features fine 17th-century architectural detail including plasterwork, woodwork and chimneypieces. Now a grade I listed building, the hall is restored to its former Jacobean splendor and is hugely popular with visitors of all ages. Walk through the stunning interiors and see the home that received royalty, was besieged during the English Civil War and inspired an author. Enjoy peaceful, picturesque grounds and cakes, snacks, and hot drinks available in the cafe.

Aston Hall is a beautiful noble home, which will also tell you a lot about the history of Aston from prehistoric times to the industrial heyday to the modern era.

it's amazing that this really old building has survived , intact so close to the motorway and Villa football ground, it closes when there is a match! now there is a £3 charge, well worth it. a really fine example of it's kind and situated in beautiful grounds.

We had a few days in Birmingham, Aston Hall was one of the highlights of the visit, a fabulous historic building, I could just feel the history within it's walls. Nice gardens too and a welcome break from the inner city, simple cafe yet good for quality sandwiches and tea. Easy to get to Aston from city by bus and train.
If you live in Birmingham then this is a must do on your doorstep.

This place is a true hidden gem! Amazing house, the guide we had was very good and loved hearing about the history of the house especially the ghostly hauntings. Would defiantly go back for a visit
