“Excellent Service - Wedding Vow Renewal Event”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

Having looked around at local hotels to hold our wedding vow renewal ceremony we stumbled across the Holiday Inn Chapel Lane Birmingham and looked into their wedding package currently on offer. From the first contact with their Wedding Coordinator Elena to the end of our event we could not fault them. The hotel gave us the use of three rooms for our event, one to hold the ceremony in, one to hold the wedding breakfast in and one to hold the buffet, many other local hotels just give you the use of one room for the entire day. The hotel allowed us to have an early check in which was much appreciated and gave us a complimentary one night stay with champagne. They also gave our guests reduced rates also very much appreciated. The staff on the day namely Elena and Kabir were faultless along with all the catering staff and bar staff. Our food for the wedding breakfast was of a high quality from the starter to the main course and served professionally. We overran on the day with our timings and speeches but we were not hurried along at all by anyone as the room had to be cleaned out before the evening party commenced. Yes the bar prices are steep but you will get that at most hotels these days. The breakfast is of a high quality and the rooms clean and comfortable. One of our guests was disabled and also brought her dogs with her, her room had the biggest bathroom we have ever seen! Overall we had a fantastic Wedding Vow Renewal day, we have not received any negative feedback from any of our guests who either attended and stayed over or just attended on the day. A big thank you to all the staff who work at The Holiday Inn keep up the good work.

The reception and the room were extremely good but the bar and restaurant service were very poor and the food - even having sent it back once - was uneatable. We waited a good 15 minutes for the starter which were fishcakes, only to be told that they did not have any! By co-incidence we all (four of us) chose steak as the main course. This arrived 20 minutes later but it was impossible to cut. Having complained we waited another 15 minutes and the replacement steaks also were impossible to cut. This was an extremely embarrassing evening as we had two business associates with us. Having complained to the Duty Manager the next morning, who promised a rapid investigation and report, a week later we are still waiting!!

We stayed here for one night on a Park & Stay package. Room was spotlessly clean & totally silent which we found quite amazing as it is almost on the runway. Flat screen TV and every type of IT connection you could think off on the room desk. Had dinner in the restaurant which we found above average for a 'Chain Hotel'. Hotel has went through a major refurb recently and we found it excellent with great staff. Parking for airport was very good leaving car in hotel car park and taking shuttle bus which took about 7 minutes. return pick up went exactly as described. One small niggle, we did not get our early morning call that had been ordered but we think thatwas down to technical fault on a new system.

A dull souless hotel, miles from anywhere. This hotel exists only to squeeze every last penny from the travelling public. £18 for a 10oz steak £7 for a glass of mediocre red, uninterested staff & £15 for poor internet reception. It's worth £50 per night no more.

Hotel has free unlimited parking which is hassle and expenses free. Only a 10 min drive from the city centre and just off the motor-way so easily accessible. Rooms are spacious and of normal holiday inn standard. Great hotel and rather than paying city centre prices, more ideal to stay here at a cheaper rate and be just 10 mins away from the busy city.

Standard rooms are dire. If you must stay here, upgrade to an Executive room, but don't pay more than £50 per night room only. That rate can be had if you stay 2 nights. One night will cost you £100!! The rack rate is nearly £150, but I don't think they dare to charge that price ever....

Ask for a room on floor 2 or 3 with a low room number - they are furthest away from reception, but are quieter and appear to be in better condition. Rooms on floor 1 (the basement) are nasty and cold.

Bathrooms are old, with dribbly showers unless you are in an Executive room, but even they are inconsistent.

Some Executive rooms are better furnished and larger than others - I'm guessing that they used to have three room grades at one time.

Rooms are better in Holiday Inn Express hotels.

If you order a bar meal, order it an hour before you want to eat it, because that is how long the small portions of over-priced luke warm microwaved food will take to arrive. There is a Pizza Hut just down the road and a Harvester across the road - eat there instead!

Room service 'leftovers' are left in the corridors for hours. In room safes aren't even fixed down (apart from the odd one that has short screws fixing it to a chipboard shelf!!), so Mr Burglar can just put your safe in his grip back and walk out of the hotel with your valuables!!

The safes seem to be popular for hiding glasses of fag ends nehind in the non-smoking rooms!! The staff kindly leave them for you to find.
