“So much more than your average Holiday Inn”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Stayed just one night as we were attending a wedding reception there. Very surprised to discover so many additional facilities including a superbly modern fitness centre with a large indoor pool and gym. We had a lower ground floor room (126) right by the fitness centre which was, for the price, most acceptable. The bar was open throughout the evening serving both wedding guests and every-one else....and although we had to queue occasionally, the bar staff worked real hard to keep us lubricated! (Mind you, the bar prices are a bit steep for Birmingham!!) Lodes of parking and easy access to the motorway add to its benefits. But the best of the lot was the breakfast on Sunday morning!!! A full array of everything you could possibly want after a good night of celebrating.......and as much as you can eat!! Would definitely return....if only for breakfast!!

Booked this hotel as a "Superbreak Mystery 4 Star" option, so it was a bit of a punt. Having just returned from our visit to Gardeners World Live at Birmingham N.E.C. we want to say that we had an excellent stay at this Holiday Inn.
We found all members of staff to be extremely helpful & professional - more importantly, they had a smile on their faces, which makes a lot of difference! The reception staff were excellent, very helpful and a credit to the hotel. We used the hotel for breakfast, which was very good - buffet style help yourself full English. (A tip - breakfast starts 0730 on Sat / Sun - try to avoid getting down there first thing, as things get rather busy, with a veritable scrum around the toast machine)
The room was very clean, and quiet - we were on the 1st floor (Room 346) which was away from the bar/reception area. The bathroom / toilet was clean, if a little small.
Location - just off the M6, so very handy for access to the motorway - about 20 mins. to N.E.C.
Across the road from the hotel is Basmati, a good Indian restaurant, and a fish & chip shop. Also a Londis shop for various provisions.
All in all, a really nice place to stay - I have read other reviews of this hotel talking of dirty rooms & non-English speaking staff - all I can say is we experienced exactly the opposite - a clean room & extremely professional staff - and at £145 for 3 nights with full breakfast, very good value!

Room Tip: Room 346 is quiet

Stayed here due to price to attend function at the Great Barr Hotel nearby. Booked an executive room which was fine, though we had to change rooms as the safe did not work. This was no problem. Room fine with comfortable bed. Enjoyed pool facilities. Breakfast fine but area too small for numer of guests and still not enough staff available to clear tables and replenish stocks. Would certainly return here if in the area. As priority club members i feel this was recognised by reception staff.

I stayed here on a business trip. While it is quite a nice hotel, some of the service in the bar/restaurant and room care lets it down. If I was paying for this myself I would be a little disappointed to say the least. The rooms are comfortable enough with decent sized HD televisions, but although I stayed there for 4 nights, some of the items I used on my stay werent replaced, such as coffee and bubble bath. It felt like the room had been tidied very quickly. Also the room doors dont block out enough noise, and trolleys and late arrivals can be heard clattering up and down the corridors, even in the very early hours of the morning.

The bar food wasnt great, and rather expensive for what is basically chain restaurant quality. Being vegetarian I ordered the Thai vegetable curry, whcih was actually nice, but came with prawn crackers which are certainly not vegetarian. I asked for this to be served with a nan bread instead, but lo and behold the meal came with prawn crackers. I pointed this out, and the manager (who served us) said he would get me a nan bread. Not only did he forget, but he forgot to bring knives and forks to our table, so we had to ask for this, and then ask for the nan bread. This nan bread, which are the very tiny ones that cost about 20pence each and are microwaved took ook fifteen minutes to prepare and I had almost finished my meal when it finally arrived.

The food at breakfast is ok with plenty of variety, but I asked for mushrooms without butter, and these were the blandest mushrooms I have ever eaten, hence they drown them in butter normally to give them some flavour.

I spoke to some of the staff, and it seems they have a very high turnover rate, and many of the staff here are not fully trained yet. The ones who are provide excellent service, and it is excellent who they are. If staff are coming and going, then I suspect there is a problem, such as low pay. Well given this is an expensive place to stay and eat, I suggest more is sepnt on training and retaining staff, who are of course a hotels most valuable asset.

Free use of the gym and pool, and free exercise classes such as aerobics, boxercise and yoga are the best thing about this hotel, and I look forward to staying again, but please improve the restaurant, as I can eat at the nearby Harvester for the same sort of food (but probably better than here) at a much lower price. Also the drinks are ludicrously expensive at £4.00 a pint for Stella Artois.

Great facilities for business, handily placed near the M6, but some of the services are not of the standard I would expect from such an expensive hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room with little traffic such as room service and late night arrivals. If you like u...

We stayed two nights on Superadvanced non refundable bookings, but they allowed us to change the date. Clean, close to motorway, and very good value at £39.00 including b/fasts. We also stayed one night at the Park Inn which was more expensive and had a less well looked after sauna and steam room.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Drayton Manor park and Birmingham. Hotel is easily located just off the M6 and there are a few places to eat within a 5 minute walk (several pubs, Harvester and a couple of Indian restaurants)

We had 2 young (age 2 & 4) children and made use of the hotel's pool. Breakfast was good and plenty of options.

Staff were helpful and friendly and we would recommend this hotel.

Had to cancel at the last minute but they very kindly waved the booking fee which I thought was very kind of them and worth a mention!
