Description: Situated on St Pauls Church square, Andersons Bar and Grill is found in the interesting surroundings of former 18th century cellars. However this restaurant is as far from a dingy basement bar as it is possible to be lush, sophisticated dcor brings light and space to the brick arched room, changing displays of art is displayed on the walls and theres a definite buzz to the atmosphere. With a dedication to providing great value food in a relaxed setting along with top quality service, Andersons Bar and Grill is already making its mark on the local dining scene. The food, sourced locally is of course hearty grill fayre but presented with a touch of class so even old favourites such as Barnsley chop or grilled plaice are actually rather special.

We went to this establishment with average hopes of a good steak, especially after reading lots of good reviews. The welcoming was ok and we were kindly directed to our table. The drink order was taken and the second waiter told us about todays specials, so far so good. After that the level of service sunk like a stone. In a party of three people we ordered two angus steaks and one lamp. The former medium-rare and the latter medium-rare as well. The received steaks were medium-to-well-done as was the case with the lamb. During our entire dinner, not once were our glasses filled up when empty, we had to fill-up ourselves, even though the staff went by all the time. Lousy service. And it was monday evening, not even a busy night so there was no excuse, the restaurant was half empty.

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear your experience at Andersons bar and grill did not meet your standards.
your table was checked by our staff whilst you were having your main course and we could have resolved the matter very quickly if you had let us know at that time of your disatisfaction with the medium rare hanger steaks. We pride our selves on the quality of our product and if at any time a customer is not happy with we endevour to replace the dish as quickly as possible, but without being told when our staff check the table you can appreicate this is very difficult. As regards to the lousy service of not pouring your wine for you, we are not a fine dinning restaurant. Many of our customers prefer to pour the wine that they have paid for at their own table for their guests, we feel this reduces the need for our staff to intrude on the table every 10 to 15 minutes.

We visited Andersons last weekend for a family dinner with girlfriend and her parents - we had been there before so knew what to expect. The restaurant is small and intiment - it has c. 10 tables but there is a lot of space and some more private enclaves which adds to the warm feel of the place. The food was fantastic - we have eaten in many of Birminghams highest rated restaurants and this rates right up towards the top. The speciality is steak (ours was cooked to perfection) but there are some very interesting British fusion dishes - and some good meal combinations. With wine you are looking at c 50 pp for a three course dinner - which for the quality of the food is highly reasonable.

The staff are truly fantastic - are highly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu, but are concious of when you would like to be left to talk and are not pushy at all. We had our table from 7.30 and it was ours for the evening - adding to the relaxed feeling of the whole evening.

Overall a fantastic restaurant - one we've been to before, and will definitely be returning to! Highly recommended!!!

Went for my second visit to Anderson's recently, but this is my first review. Neither times to it disappoint. If you are in Birmingham and you want a steak this is the only choice. Forget Marco Pierre White where the food is average and the service slow, here the food is excellent and the service great.

Cannot recommend it highly enough.

The restaurant was buzzing with people, food was very good however service could have been a little better, we did have a slight complaint which we discussed with the waitress however this seemed to go no further.

Dinner for 2 came to £36 which for a place as nice as this was a bargain. I had surf n turf with water and my friend had steak, chips & veg with coke. Perfect price and lovely inside. Friendly staff and efficient. Nice atmosphere in the place too. Lost marks due to the toilets which weren’t in keeping with the rest of the place. Maybe they’re still to be done up? I’d go back for sure though, very nice..
