“In need of refurbishment”
Reviewed January 29, 2010

I stayed at this hotel for one night at the end of January 2010.

The hotel looks ok from the outside and the reception area is fine too, although nothing fancy.

It seems to be in a good enough location, apparently in the middle of Chinatown and close to the Bullring.

The room was in real need of refurbishment, especially the carpet, which looked filthy.
The showeroom was clean and modern.

The staff were not especially helpful and the breakfast was very average.

A basic hotel, in a good location at a reasonable price.

I checked with Expedia and Bookings on the rate for 1 night and the best rate came from the hotel site itself.

After reading some reviews of Ibis hotels in Birmingham, we were concerned at what we would get to say the least. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Hotel clean and well presented, staff very friendly, breakfast nice, perfectly located. And for 30 pounds per person on New Years Eve, who can complain?!!

I stayed in this hotel with my partner for a weekend just before Christmas. It is in a great location, close to the main shopping area and all the pubs and restaurants. We had a great night sleep after our night out and enjoyed a great shower in the morning. The breakfast was really good and we liked that it was available till midday. We would definitely stay again,

Stayed at the Ibis with my wife for a weekend in November, as we were going for a comedy evening to a nearby Glee Club, which is literally a stone throw away! Nice hotel, superb location right in the city centre with everything you want within a walking distance. We also booked a good deal online, so the room was smth like £59 a night. I would say rooms are rather samll, but very clean and comfortable. Checking in and out was trouble free, staff were very pleasant, we asked for a place to eat and they've recommended an excellent Indian restaurant not far away. Overall, definetely would consider coming back for another weekend next year!

The best and worst of the hotel is the location - close to shopping and nightclubs. The clubs are open through the week and the hotel picks up the bass sounds and party-goers.

The breakfast is expensive; the hot foods are always served cold and at any time a third of the menu (coffee included) may be out. The other meals are terrible.

Booked the IBIS well in advance for a large group to stay 1 night.
Arrived at the hotel and was informed that no rooms were available, and all hotels in central Birmingham were full. We were offered a room at their branch at Birmingham Airport which we had no choice but to take. The cover story was an electrical failure on the 3rd floor and all of this was OK because "we would have called you this morning but didn't have your phone number" - which makes it my fault. of course.
Make a reservation here if you like but don't be too confident about getting your room.
Oh, and the 24-hour alcohol license "is discretionary, it's 1am and we're feeling tired"
