“A great weekend break- fire alarm included!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Visited and stayed at the Novotel for a kids treat to go to the Gadget show. Everything with the hotel was first rate. Rooms were clean and very comfortable main beds, (however kids sofa beds were a little springy which they found uncomfortable) Bar area was very relaxing and the breakfast was amazing. Considering I have picky eaters they managed to find something they liked to start the day with full tums. Hot buffet selection was very fresh, plenty of different cereals to choose from and tasty pastries with unlimited coffee/juice together with self made toast excellent.
The location is excellent we travelled by train to birmingham international station, then within the station you catch the free 3 min skylink to the airport terminal (which the kids thought was awesome) and then the hotel is opposite the terminal doors. In addition to this the NECC is linked internally to the Birmingham international station so you never need a coat. The hotel must have excellent glazing panels as I never heard any aircraft in the two nights we were there, in fact I forgot I was at an airport.- top tip - the Terminal building has 'landside restaurants including wetherspoons and Franki and Benny's so we printed off vouchers on line and got 20% discount vouchers so saved money on our evening meal for both families! Bargain.
During our stay the fire alarm went off at 10.30 pm when most families like us were in bed. (The alarm sounded in each bedroom as well). As I was on my own with the kids, it was quite an anxious experience but we pulled on our coats and headed to fire exit (which I had just read that evening!) and left the building as instructed by staff. Many people in PJ's and dressing gowns, wet hair etc.The staff were excellent, this was not a drill but a real situation, the staff at the lobby door guided people out and within a very few minutes the situation was resolved. (I think the staff said a resident had been smoking in their bedroom) and we returned indoors to warmth very quicky. Although a 'scary' experience for a mum with kids, its good to know the Hotel system works very well.- So the gadget show was great, but the kids memories, well its the fire alarm they tell people about!!!

The soundproofing of the Windows is brilliant so no aircraft noise. However sleeping on the 1st floor I was Party to listen to the noises from the kitchen, some billboard with an electric Motor that came into Action every minute and the loud noise off the water pipes when the surrounding rooms used the bathroom. The room kept me dry, but very little sleep that night! Due to Location I may be forced to use again

This was my first stay at a Novotel and it was very good. The staff were very helpful and the room clean, although the decoration was a little tired. I had an evening meal at the restaurant and enjoyed the food, although the family on the table next to me were very angry at the slow service and left for a flight before their food arrived. | would stay there again as I was able to drop my hire car off a day early and walk to the check-in desk which was literally 200 metres from the hotel reception.

Room Tip: It is worth upgrading to an executive room

Need i say more for a hotel that we paid £185 per room per night when the Ibis is next door for £28! Rooms were no better than a budget hotel although it was convenient for the NEC. I did however enjoy my meal in the restaurant but was also expensive for what you get.

I stayed here for 3 nights during a trade show at the nearby NEC.
This is truly an exellent hotel from check in through to staff service and food. The rooms were cleaned each day and the bar and restaurant were both spotless.
I expected an uplift on prices due to this being an airport hotel but again these were reasonable regarding drinks.
My only issue was with the night staff as I was woken up many times each night due to a loud gate like crash! I was in room 315 and noted a service room next to mine and can only guess this was the noise source.

I would recommend and would return due to the high standards set at the Novotel.

Obviously, this hotel is perfectly located for the airport, the lobby is clean and attractive and the rooms are plain but OK. However, I was here for a conference stopover and I thought it was a dire experience. The car parking is unbelievably inconvenient. Poor signage, barrier for drop off and then park in medium term car park - no designated spaces so hard to find one - and expensive. Took me 25 minutes from arrival to get to conference. The food was awful both at lunch and dinner and the staff unhelpful. I paid €10 for an internet connection, which was clunky and cut out 20 feet from reception. It also connects in France. On complaining, a member of staff said "yeah, it's terrible, isn't it?". Errr... thanks for your help. Oh, and 6 drinks at the bar cost me £45. There must be better than this closeby.

Having never stayed in a Novotel hotel before and not knowing what to expect, we were really pleasantly surprised. The hotel lobby was lovely and modern and check in a breeze with very friendly staff. We stayed just the one night while visiting the NEC. It is perfectly situated for both the airport and the NEC via a two minute shuttle ride. Parking is just a short walk away in the airport long stay car park. Breakfast is expensive but good, so make sure you book this in your package before hand if you can because at £15 per person it can make a difference.
We enjoyed this hotel so much, that we booked to stay for two nights at the birmingham central one.
