“A little gem”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

Easy to find and yet we had never visited before, The Barber Institute is in Edgbaston and is a real local gem. They have a great Gallery with plenty of famous works but not huge and then we went to a free lunchtime concert in their modest sized auditorium in an Art Deco style which was a pleasure to attend.

“Probably the best small art gallery in the UK”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

The Barber Institute on the University of Birmingham campus is an amazing small gallery which will give you a pretty good introduction to Western art in under an hour. My five year old loves it (particularly Puvis de Chavannes' Beheading of John the Baptist) and they quite often have activities for kids. It's usually quite quiet and you can take a quick stroll round the University's magnificent redbrick buildings as well.

“Small Gallery but well stocked”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

This is a fantastic small gallery well worth a visit if you have an hour to spare.
There are frequently changing exhibitions as well as the permanent display. large collection of Pre-Rafaellite paintings.
Easy to find and not too crowded.
