“Worth a visit”

Went primarily to look at The Government Art Collection. Really interesting. The Birmingham through the ages exhibition is really interesting particularly if you're local.

“Always a Must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

Always a must whenever we are in Birmingham. An amazing collection, something for everyone. This time we took in the Birmingham exhibition, which is perhaps intended for families but we still enjoyed an hour or so in there. sadly no time to enjoy the galleries or the restaurant this time

“Another plus for Birmingham”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is so worth a visit. My favourite parts: the Birmingham History Galleries telling the history of the place; the Staffordshire Hoard with some spectacular examples of the Anglo-Saxon items the metal detectorist found; the accurately named Round Room, with a huge dome and the paintings hung high to the ceiling; the Industrial gallery to the right of the dome, through the shop, with sturdy decorative Victorian ironwork holding up the first floor; and beyond that, the Edwardian tearoom – a most impressive space architecturally with good tea as well. If you enter via the main entrance, the grand staircase is worth a look too. Easy to get lost as you wander round.... but where better to get lost?

“Really good way to spend a day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

There was a really good variety of exhibitions in place - some static, some visiting - so there's bound to be something for most people in there. All housed in a beautiful building and all for the cost of a donation. This is just what art and history should be - inspiring and accessible to all. Well done Birmingham!
