Amazing Pre-Raphaelite collection and wonderful later c19th and c20th art too. The temporary exhibition on Government Art is well worth a significant diversion to go and see - it has one of my favourite EVER exhibition spaces within it (Richard of York) - and I go to a lot of exhibitions. Nice little shop and cafe too. Great.

There is so much history and art to explore in the permanent and special exhibitions that it is well worth spending at least a day here. Most of the exhibits are free and there is something for everyone. The Edwardian Tea Rooms are a bonus.

There's plenty to see, so after the paintings in the first gallery we concentrated on the history of Birmingham as time was running short. An excellent presentation of the early to modern day history of the city. Plenty of interactive displays and well worth the visit. I'll definitely be going again to continue my tour.

As with most museums in England, quite a blessing to be able to spend a couple of hours here and all free of charge. A good variety of exhibits available at different times supplementing the standard collections, including some high profile pieces. Set in the perfect building for a museum too, yet located right in the centre of Birmingham near to New Street station, bus routes, the Bullring shopping centre and so on. Occasionally there are exhibits geared slightly more towards children. Always a nice visit.

Positives: Everything a museum needs and should be.

Negatives: Limited supplementary facilities (but these could be accessed elsewhere, nearby in the city centre; often rather busy for a museum).

This was my first visit to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and I was pleasantly surprised to the extent of the Artwork collection and also the exhibits.

There is such a lot on offer with many pieces of work from the great impressionists, a large section is devoted to the complete potted history of Birmingham up until present day with highly informative and many interactive exhibits including a section detailing the area’s dominance in the Motor Industry and also the creation of the Bull Ring and the steady regeneration of the city – it is all here. The restaurant was a delight but extremely quiet on my visit.

A surprisingly good Museum and Art Gallery.
