We visited the Hippodrome on Saturday to see the Lion King, it was our first ever visit to the Hippodrome and started off well. It was a blazingly hot night but the foyer and bar area were wonderfully cool, the aircon obviously doing it's job. The whole theatre is really well done out and much nicer than a lot of theatres. Upon entering the auditorium though we were hit by the heat, either the main auditorium isn't airconditioned which I find hard to believe or they didn't have it set right. Despite only wearing shorts and a t-shirt I was uncomfortably hot throughout the whole performance to the point of actually becoming sticky and sweaty, god knows what was going on with the aircon as at the interval we returned to the bar area and it was wonderfully cool in there. The show was great and wasn't ruined by the heat but it's something they need to sort out for the future.

I've been watching shows at The Birmingham Hippodrome for 35 years and its a great place and has fantastic shows on. However, The Lion King was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best show I've ever seen!!!! If you get a chance it's a show which must NOT BE MISSED!!! I cried, I laughed, I smiled, I frowned, I applauded and I was mesmerised by what unfolded before my eyes. 100% recommended

Have been going to the Hippodrome for some time, it is a great theatre, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the seating in the circle is very good with tiered seating so you have an unrestricted view. Sound and air con are very good too. For a relaxing meal go to the Circle restaurant beforehand, where the food is fantastic and you are always sure that you will finish your meal in time for the show and you can go back to your table in the break for your dessert, ice cream and/or drinks. The Lion King was probably the best show I have seen there, the colours, music and puppetry were fantastic, a show definitely not to be missed.
Please note that the tunnels through Birmingham are closed after 10pm at the moment (July 2013) so diversions are in operation and also the M6 is closed on some stretches at night, so if you are going in the direction of Walsall, you are best to use the A34, or go by public transport.

Any time I visit the Hippodrome it's such a great experience. It's modern and theres hardly a bad seat in the house. Good availability of bars and toilets meaning you don't have to queue too long in the intervals. The Hippodrome has been attracting some great shows and we're lucky to have such a top-class facility in Birmingham.
