“Cheap dirty flop house”
Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here with work. First the few good points. Breakfast was edible and the double room was of a good size. That's about it.
The corridors are drab with scuffed walls, chipped paint and stained carpets. The radiators only did off or volcano heat. Cobwebs/ dust through passageways. The room was equally chipped/damaged and the cigarette stained/burnt net curtains were a nice touch.
This place obviously relies on companies blind booking as its cheap. It's a flop house for people working in the area and nothing more. How this place rates as three star is a mystery!

I stayed here for one night in a single room. There is a large overflow carpark at the rear of the hotel and a small carpark at the front. Check-in was painless and the staff were friendly. The room was basic but adequate. The hotel was popular with lots of groups milling around the bar. Breakfast was good.
I found the hotel to be good value for money and would stay there again.

This hotel was absolutely disgusting! I would never stay there again. Hostels are nicer! I felt unsafe in the hotel as the doors looked like they had been battered in, the rooms were really cold and dirty - they need a good refurbishing.

When I booked the room online there was no mention of the refurbishment. Even though the refurbishment itself wasn't particularly disruptive it was a little offputting to come across dirty stairs. The room I stopped in was clearly due for an upgrade as the decor and furnishings were definitely looking dated. Having said that the bed itself was very comfortable and the bathroom was actually quite fresh looking. There was one small niggle in that I arrived to find just one small handtowel in the bathroom and had to ring reception to get more towels brought up. When I did this I was a little surprised when they asked whether I needed them straight away as, apparently, the housekeeper wasn't due in until about half an hour later. They didn't make any fuss when I said I did need them immediately, but I do think it was a bit cheeky trying to delay sorting this out. Anyway, I had a comfortable night when all is said and done and the breakfast provision was fine so overall the stay was OK. Oh, and one last thing, the website does describe the location as 'set amongst beautiful peaceful gardens'. Whilst that may be true, it is on the Hagley Road which is a busy main artery road. It's not exactly central London, but during the day it takes a lot of commuter traffic (it was no surprise to me as I work nearby!).

We read the revievs on the hotel before we booked, but we are of the mind that you judge for yourself. We were very impressed, yes there were builders on site, they were jolly polish workers, but never interupted our stay. We dined in the restaurant/bar area & were impressed with the quality & quantity of the meal for the value. The room was a very good size, the water in the shower & bath were hot. there was plenty of tea & coffee etc so overall we were happy & will stay there again next time we are there in Birmingham.

We stayed on Saturday 19th january, and booked a triple room for £55 via booking.com. We paid another £8 per person for breakfast so £80 in all - an absolute bargain. Our room had most definately recently been reburbished. Everything was brand new and spotless. We had one double bed and two single beds (i'm guessing it was really a family room). It snowed the whole time we were there, but our room was lovely and warm. Our room faced the main road, but the noise of the traffic didn't bother us.
We had tickets for the NIA, and a taxi was a 5min ride away and cost £6 each way, bargain.
We were late getting up for breakfast the next day, but with 10 minutes to go there was still plenty of fresh food, and chef even rustled up some extra fried eggs for us. :)

Rooms dirty and mould found on the walls in one of the rooms, house keeping not done on many occasions! Gym was small but nice enough! I would not recommend this hotel at all! Staff Re friendly enough, but it's a shame the rooms and other services lack any sort of quality!
