I booked mt stay using booking.com and was going to stay Monday and Tuesday - I was going to visit a friend who was sick and he died before I arrived so I phoned the Hotel (from Canada) at 6am and informed the lady who answered the telephone my booking reference and that I was cancelling my stay - she said fine, I specifically asked if the room was cancelled and if there was a cancellation fee and she informed me that the room was cancelled and that there would NOT be a cancellation fee. Today I get an e mail from booking.com charging me for a noshow - I telephoned the hotel and the SAME woman informs me she does not remember the conversation and that I should have gone to the web site to cancel - she did NOT inform of this when I telephoned previously - I am mad - and would not trust this hotel as far as I could throw it...............

Room Tip: Do Not choose anything

We stayed here for four nights B&B in Feb.2012. We'd been warned by a local that the Hagley Road was busy and might be noisy, but our room at the back of the hotel overlooked the hotel car park and gardens, where we watched squirrels and birds and could have thought we were in the country. It was quiet enough to sleep with the window wide open. We didn't see or hear the guard dog mentioned in some reviews.

Our room and ensuite were very spacious, clean & comfortable - one would have thought, better than 2 star. The only minus points were that the fridge was too noisy to run at night, and the hospitality tray was basic - just tea & coffee.

We were out a lot and didn't sample the evening restaurant. Breakfast was flexible and certainly adequate, though the menu was a little basic - e.g., only 3 choices of cereal, jams but no marmalade, tinned tomatoes - but the service was excellent.

But what made our stay really delightful was the outstanding friendliness of the proprietors. They couldn't have done more to fit in with our requirements, and to be helpful when we had car trouble. Their kindness and flexibility left us with happy memories and I have no hesitation in highly recommending the Woodlands.

My boyfriend & I stayed at the Woodlands for a last-minute romantic weekend, & we loved it!

The hotel itself is quite small & has a lovely warm, homey feel to it. The owners were nice, chatty people -- We did have a slight problem with the male owner when my boyfriend first tried to book, although the female owner was fine with me.

They were very accomodating as I'd told them I'd be arriving in Birmingham late at night, so they allowed us to check in at around 11pm. On check in, you're given your room key which also has a key to unlock the front doors, should you happen to be out in town after midnight, and a keyring (to keep) as a momento from the hotel.

Because it was a last-minute thing, our room had:
- 2 huge single beds (which we just pushed together, although we could fit easily on just 1),
- A nice sized flat-screen tv with all the freeview channels you'd expect,
- A bathroom with a bath/shower, and
- A lovely double window which looked out onto the garden/parking area.

The room also had a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, 2 mirrors (a full-length one & a smaller one) & a nice sized wardrobe, whilst also having enough room to move around without bumping into each other/furniture.

One thing which I really liked about the hotel was the fact they allow you to have takeaway delivered -- They even have leaflets from the local places downstairs at reception. I don't know if this is how things are done in Birmingham but this was a novelty for me, as a Glaswegian.

The hotel has a garden/parking area where the owner's dog is kept (in an enclosure). The dog barked/howled sometimes, but we had no problems with this because it's what you expect from a dog -- Especially one that is being used as a guard dog.

All in all, this hotel was a really nice & I would reccommend it.

Room Tip: We had a room which faced onto the garden/parking area, which we loved. If, like us, you don't m...
