Comfort Zone Serviced Apartments
Reviewed June 20, 2011

Stayed here for four nights with my two children. When we arrived the Reception was closed but they had left very good instructions so check in was great. We went to the apartment and soon noticed various things broken, including two glass wardrobe doors which were hanging off the hinges. We phoned the help line number and a man who answered informed us that someone would sort it the next day, we mentioned various items that were broken too just so we didn't have to pay for them when we checked out. The next day, no-one came so we just left it, we were not too bothered really. The one main problem with this apartment is that the front room and kitchen over look the main road and once its dark anyone can just see straight in because of the see through curtains. This was my main concern with being on my own with two children. We also had kids ringing our phone on the intercom system which was a bit annoying. We paid nearly £500.00 for four nights so I did expect things to be a little bit nicer than what they were. Saying that the apartments are in a ideal location and its really easy to reach various places. I would shop around next time to see if I can get them a bit cheaper.

Stayed at the Branston Street apartment for 10 nights while at a trade show at the NEC. It worked really well for us as it had 3 rooms and we were not sure how many staff and which nights we were going to need accomodation for. I emailed on a number of occasions before booking and always got swift replies, they were very helpful when sorting out wireless internet. The only problem with the appartment was the blinds were a nightmare and some of the furniture was falling apart. We would walk into the city most evenings, it took around 15 minutes. I would definately use them again.

Over the years we have stayed in many serviced apartments but this has to be the most run down. It has three decent sized bedrooms and the apartment does sleep 8 but that is where the highlights end. There are stains on the carpet, the blinds are falling down, the fridge had dirty water in it as did the dish washer. The apartment itself is tired with lots of electrical items not working. It took us two hours to retune the tv. In terms of location it is great if you want to visit the jewellery quarters bars and restaurants. St Pauls square is five minutes away and town can be reached with in a 15 minute walk. We paid £240 for one night. I feel we were ripped off.

I am afraid this review is not as glowing as my last one for these apartments.

Before continuing I will explain that there are 4 apartments (7/14/28/28) which are situated at the BACK of this development which have fantastic carpark and wall views.

I was initially checked into No 7 which is on the first floor but is very over shadowed by walls etc - it was very dark. so as I was staying for 3 nights I asked to be moved. Was moved to No 21 on the 3rd floor, same aspect - but as higher not as dark. Overnight the following problems became apparent::
1) Hob/kitchen worksurfaces had fat splashes on them - not properly clean
2) All heaters had dodgy buttons, you had to poke something in them to use them
3) Only 1 wardrobe door (there should be 2)
4) Mattress so uncomfortable (springs sticking into you) that I had to sleep on top of the duvet
5) Bedroom heater switched itself off
6) Water less than tepid when showering.

The morning after the 1st night I went and complained - it was dealt with very professionally with no arguments (the staff are lovely here). I said that I was going to seek alternate accommodation and that I expected a refund of the unused nights - this was agreed - but I was offered another apartment plus a 60% refund on the first night. I didn't really want the hassle of having to move developments, so accepted. I was moved to No 14 (yes same aspect!!!!) - not quite as dark as No 7 but as least with none of the problems of No 21!

They only have a small car park (£10 per day) and it would appear that they oversell it - many cars were double parked and blocked in - not ideal. Thankfully where I had parked it was not possible to block me in as I was by the entrance.

Overall - still fair value for money - but if are to stay here request an apartment that is not 7/14/21 - ideally stay at Cutlass Court (operated by the same people) which is about 100 yds down the road - it just seems a bit higher standard. All staff here are brilliant!
