4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

Popped in for a quick meal with three others.
We all ordered pasta which was fresh and very tasty.
randomly a stand out was the garlic bread which was some of the best I have had.
swift friendly service too.
we would all happily return

“Traditional Italian food this is not”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

Popped in because the Chinese up the road was closed. Had my Italian partner and mother-in-law with me and looked OK from the outside, a bit dated and homely like most neighbourhood restaurants in Rome! Not a single Italian in sight, neither customer nor staff.

Pizza, the safest sounding dish, turned out to be on a ready-made base (refuted by the waitress, made twice daily to keep up with demand). Under-cooked base with strange tasting Parmesan (processed/long life?).

Arancini the size of a grapefruit with heavily flavoured Saffron rice and a blob of sugo bolognaise. The only redeeming feature was the crispness of the coating.

Great for tourists (non Italians!) but not for anyone who has ever visited Italy and returned yearning for the flavours of good, home-cooked Italian food.

Piccolinos, Owner at Piccolinos, responded to this review, September 10, 2013
Dear Matt, I feel I should respond to your review as I do believe it is at best misleading and verging on bizarre. In response to your first point regarding the nationality of staff and customers: our staff are for the main part from Sicily, as is the family that have owned and run Il Piccolinos since 1979. However, we pride ourselves on not discriminating against those from other backgrounds, so yes, some of our staff are English and one is in fact from Nepal. As for controlling the customers nationalities, I do believe people from all over the world are entitled to sample Italian cuisine.
In response to your second point about the bases, all I can do is reiterate that the bases are in fact made freshly at lunch and usually up to four mixes at night. Every two hours a new mix is made so it can proof. Each pizza is made to order and thin base is available upon request.

Your third point regarding the Arancini; a traditional Sicilian snack which is offered on our Lunch menu for just £4.95. This is freshly made exactly as you would find it in Sicily. It is not a smaller, mass produced version which you can buy in from external suppliers, as some restaurants do. I am sure there are variations in mainland Italy but ours are true to traditional Sicilain cuisine.
We are obviously disappointed that you did not enjoy your lunch or your partner did not converse with Salvatore who made your Pizza, as he would have happily demonstrated his processes to you, in Italian if desired.

“Great pizza”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

We love popping in to Piccolinos for a pizza. The other dishes just don't seem as good, but a pizza and a beer; you can't go wrong and you'd never do fast food pizza again! Friendly staff and a family run place; it's what we like!

“Long wait”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Waited ages for a table, no apologies and had to ask for a menu. Sat down and finally ordered but it was so hot and loud and it had taken so long to even order that we decided to get our food to go. Bill was charged wrong and only had one till so we had to wait while our pizza got cold. Pizza was ok and didn't take long. The waitress who sorted things for us was lovely and seemed rushed off her feet so dont know if this
