This is a well established, family run Italian restaurant and not one of a chain. It is well respected in the area, and maybe a little dearer than the chains, it is worth it for the personal attention by the owners- the chef and his wife. The food, as described by other contributers, is freshly cooked, and traditional.

We ate at this restaurant on Friday evening and will most definitely be eating there again soon, it was divine.

We ate early and were pleasantly surprised to find that they was only one other couple at 7.30 pm but it soon had more guests so didn’t feel too empty. The food was lovely but the real joy was the fact that they were so very accommodating, two of us wanted one of the starters as mains ~ absolutely no problem.

The service was very attentive but not overpoweringly so, all in all, a great night!

Having eaten at Giovanni's on a number of occasions over the past 15 years we chose to hold our wedding meal there. We have never received anything but fantastic food and service.

The restaurant only opens in the evenings and is very popular as it only has one sitting so the table is yours for the evening and there is no rush, being asked if you would like a break after your main course before dessert, if you can fit one in!

As our wedding was at lunchtime Giovanni and Silvan opened especially for us and we ordered a week before as we had a table of 14. One guest asked for a sirloin steak in stilton sauce and Giovanni went out of his way to get the maturest stilton and cook it to perfection.

The prawn cocktail and sirloin steak were to die for (that was my choice) and my husband said his penne starter with tomato and chilli and his sea bass were luscious but after trying my steak he knows what he's ordering next time.

All who had steak said it was the best they had ever had. The others had a mixture of pasta, chicken dishes and scampi and again they all said how beautifully it was all cooked.

Some may see it as being on the expensive side but you get what you pay for, in this case excellent food and exemplary service. There are daily specials and the dearest main course on the main menu is peppered fillet steak at £18.95 but you do have to add vegetables and side orders to that. It is worth every penny.

As their menu notes "We don't serve fast food, but we do serve fresh food as fast as we can!"

Even the registrar said it was the best Italian in the area when we said where we were going.

We came away with 12 guests all raving over the food, 8 of them living or having lived locally and not realising the restaurant was there before but all wanting to go there again when they come to visit us.

Our thanks go to Giovanni and Silvan for helping to make it such a special day for us.

The menu reflects the emphasis on freshly cooked food. The specials we had were sensational; beautifully cooked white bait and "special" gnocchi. We had tasty and fresh traditional veal mains with a good range of well cooked and presented vegetables. Classic Tiramisu and Panna cotta for dessert. The dessert trolley is fun and makes resistance to pudding much harder! Good Italian wines selection. Service is efficient and friendly but not intrusive. The atmosphere is cosy.
Only regret was not to have room for the Sea Bass special which we saw and smelt being served to others after we had eaten our mains!

Visited last year and found it disappointing but following someone recently saying how good it was decided to give second chance. My gnocchi was lovely and light, filled with pesto and served with fresh tomato sauce, the other diners enjoyed their mains also. Pud selected from trolley, my tiramisu very nice.

This is a good traditional family run restaurant with friendly efficient service. I hope that I will enjoy as much on another visit.
