Owner description: Hill Close Gardens are a rare example of victorian detached leisure/pleasure gardens. Once used by townsfolk who lived above their businesses and wanted to escape from the crowded town centre. Owners and tenants came here after work or on Sundays to tend their flowers, fruit and vegetables or to relax. These gardens have been fully restored to their original charm and boasts a visitor centre that can be hired out and is used as a tearoom on weekends and bank holidays through the summer months. The gardens are open all year during weekdays. Plant / produce / gift sales. Special events are put on throughout the year.

Warwick Racecourse has other attractions other than Horses .It may be that you are visiting the Racecourse in a Party and just for a moment you wish you were somewhere else... well you soon can be because adjacent to the Racecourse and accessed from the Bread and Meat Close Entrance is Hill Close Gardens a little haven of eighteenth century tranquility which has been lovingly restored by its friends. The gardens are indivually hedged and each provided with a garden house ,tiny octagenal brick structures with a little fireplace and chimney and room for an armchair designed by none other than than Inigo Jones. These are the forerunners of the 19TH/20TH Century Allotments , a prototype which thankfully has escaped the shipwreck of time and the bulldozers when at the last minute Warwick District Council decided not to build Houses on them but to save them for posterity. This is not the Tivoli Gardens or the lost Gardens of Heligan its just a little time capsule of social history waiting to make you smile on an Autumn afternoon

These restored Victorian Gardens are a hidden gem in the herat of Warwick. They were set up as leisure gardens for the tradespople of Warwick who lived over their workplaces and did not have a garden. There are 12 original plots which have been restored and maintained by an enthusisatic band of volunteers. Some have restored summer houses on them, some have vegetable plots and others are purely grass and flowers. There are even chickens on one plot. There are plants for sale and a tea room which serves snacks. General opening hours are limited but ehy will lay on tours for groups.

Very unusual series of small formal garden plots , recently restored , where the good folk of Warwick used to come and sit in their own green space.

1 of only 4 of this type of gardens in the UK and the only one open to the public.

In the centre of Warwick overlooking the racecourse.

Run by volunteers, Hill Close Gardens are a real tranquil green space and of great interest to gardeners.

Open Friday to Sunday.

Lots of special events, i.e. apple day , snow drop day.

Special trails for children.
