After enjoying a river cruise and a mooch around the sights and shops in Stratford upon Avon, we realised that, with a three hour drive home, we needed some sustenance before leaving.
So many places to eat but the eye-catching cakes and pastries on show at Hobsons proved to be irresistible. At a busy time, a table for a party of five was hard to find, but we persevered and our patience was duly rewarded. Some opted for the generous 15" long open sandwiches but I had seen the pork pies! OK, there were some 'normal' size ones but there were also some that must have measured 12" across by 5" deep! Although one could actually buy one of these, I settled for a generous slice accompanied by a small salad with ramekins of mustard and pickles. Washed down with a small glass of 'Le Sanglier' red wine, this proved to be one of the most enjoyable lunches ever. Unfortunately, the sheer size of the portion of pork pie meant that I had no room left to sample one of the many tempting pastries and cakes. Ah well, there's always another day!

I have no idea what the food or coffee is like.. On a recent visit we were ignored the three guys standing talking around the counter never for one moment acknowledge our presence. It wasn't as if it was busy. After a few uncomfortable minutes we turned and left. Only one female waitress smiled to us and that was when we were leaving.

Amazing selection of cakes, patisseries, cheesecakes. Prices are decent. £3.50 for a slice. The giant scone is £3.50. The interior is quaint, with a Tudor feel.

we came in for coffee, which is very good btw, and were immediately tempted by the sweet confections in the window and the glass cases. this is a self service place, look at the large menu and go to the counter to place your order and collect your drinks, the waiting staff will bring your hot food. now the cakes, there are trillions to choose from, from sweet slices to a foot high cream scone, if you dont believe me, check out the window, they are amazing. its a lovely little place, and a must go to place for any tourist. its nice and clean, but one teeny moan, get the front door sorted, the wind kept blowing it open and it became a drag getting up to close it

COMPLAINTS
Used to go here often but the last 3 times have been VERY disappointing

1. Was requested to get cash as the credit card machine was slow

2. Checked the website to see closing times a week and half ago. The following is STILL on the website. Called to confirm and was rudely told i was incorrect. Mentioned website; told it was wrong. Suggested it be updated an got laughed at!!!

"Extended summer opening hours!

To celebrate the sunshine, we’re now open until 8.30pm every day. Join us for an early supper and glass of wine."

3. Asked what was in one of the cheese cakes on display and told "cheese"!!! When asked for further info the reply was "it's cheesecake from Russia" !!!! and "you'll have to try it to see what's in it"!!! Very good customer service NOT!

4. We go in at all different times with all different people and it is usually busy but the last 2 times we have had 3/4 members of staff hovering over our table taking teapot etc as soon as it looked finished and generally making us feel like we should hurry up and depart.

All-in-all rather unhappy to say the least :-(((( It feels like they depend on location (ie being in the tourist street of Stratford/Avon) rather than taking care of repeat customers.
