“Dont go premiere”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

I booked steam train ride from Stratford to Birmingham and back for my fiance who really enjoyed vintage trains, cars, buses.... It cost me £55 per person to go premiere with sunday lunch. Premiere class itself it's nothing special. Food was ok but the portions were really, really small. If you are planning to go I would recommend to just go standard class without dining. Seriously overpriced for what it was.

“Sunday Lunch aboard the Shakespeare Express”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

To celebrate my fathers 70th birthday the family of 10 took the midday train from Stratford-Upon-Avon to Birmingham Snow Hill and return, taking Sunday lunch on the way in premier dining. All staff, which we understood many were volunteers, were most helpful and could not fault the attention and service we received. Lunch was not rushed and was to a high standard.
I would recommend this experience not just for taking lunch on a train but the additional atmosphere of being hauled by a steam engine that whisks you along beautiful countryside at speeds you will not find on heritage railways. According to train announcer we reached 75mph, a sight to behold and one my father was keen to recall. As a note Vintage Trains also provide travel without lunch starting from just £12.50 return from Stratford and £20 from Birmingham return,
I will be doing this again next year.

“Really good value experience.”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We booked on-line for the Stratford-upon-Avon to Birmingham Snow Hill and back trip, which was excellent value for money for a family ticket in standard class. The engine was spruced up to look immaculate after her trip to Wales and back the previous day. The coaching stock was very well maintained and they even cleaned the windows between trips! For anyone wanting to travel behind a steam locomotive, this is for you. The organisers and volunteers running "Vintage Trains" are a team of dedicated individuals to be complemented on their efforts and achievements.

“Steam train experience”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Good day out for all ages , we paid for the premier dining and don't really think it was worth the money , would go again but just standard class , the afternoon tea was poor quality and really badly presented , the staff are very pleasant and do their best for you just don't think the dining is worth paying for

The Afternoon Tea offering was new to us in 2012. We have offered Breakfast, Lunch and High Team for 14 years, with teriffic reviews.

Despite many satisfied customers, we always welcome any feedback on how to improve the Afternoon Tea for 2013.

“Ghost train between Stratford-on-Avon and Birmingham”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Take a 50 mile trip behind a steam locomotive that everyone thought had disappeared. Rescued from a scrapyard in south Wales, this locomotive was previously identified as 4983 "Albert Hall", but when being rebuilt in 1962 numbers stamped on the frames revealed it was in fact the scrapped 4965 Rood Ashton Hall.
This special train, run by Vintage Trains Ltd., operates only in the summer (see website) and travels over two different lines for added scenic value through beautiful countryside.
Windows are cleaned before setting out to make sure you see everything... about an hour each way and excellent value at £17.50
