“Evening ghost tour”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

Went for a evening ghost tour which was a different experience. Although very informative on the ghostly tales of the building it lacked atmosphere but we feel this is maybe down to the fact that there were only four of us in the tour group & maybe would of been a better experience with more people. The tour is reasonable priced for an experience that last about an hour.

Thank you for your review and we glad you enjoyed the ghost tour. The building is very old and historic. It is also famously haunted and rather spooky at night - so, lacking atmosphere it not something we have ever come across before!

“The best bit is the alley”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

This is a rather average attraction, of the typical waxwork horrible history type. Probably more suitable for kids than adults. The alley is very pretty though and does lure you in.

Thank you for taking the time to review our attraction. As the only museum in the country devoted to showing Tudor life for the average person, we obviously feel we are rather unique! The largest museum in Stratford, set within an historic museum, many of the interactive elements are aimed at children to make history fun and accessible, such as the torches to explore the exhibits; things to touch; hats to try on; nasty smells to sniff; writing with a quill etc. but we also find that adults enjoy this element just as much. We are also very proud of the beautiful alleyway/courtyard that leads to the museum and is free to browse and enjoy. We do hope you will visit us again and experience some of our other activities, such as tour of Stratford with William Shakespeare or a ghost tour with Dashing Jack.

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Visited here today with my 2-children and my Mother. We used a groupon voucher and i'm glad we didn't pay full price. The staff we encountered were miserable making us most unwelcome. The tour was over in approx. 15-minutes and it was all very amateurish. Will not visit again and will not recommend to others.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit. The museum is set within an historic house and has sounds, written information, hats to try on, quills to use, things to touch, lift, push and smell, as well as the small area to watch a programme on the property. There is also the free treasure trail for the children, prize and free souvenir newspaper. We are surprised this only took 15 minutes! Staff welcome all the visitors, giving out the freebies and information along the way. We charge a very modest entry fee (between £1-£8 less than other local museums), which goes towards improvements; maintaining the historic property and overheads - and in your case, you paid approximately half price.

“Very interesting House, worth wandering into”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

So... we've just come back from a weekend in Stratford and we were wandering past Tudor World when we saw the sign for ghost walks in the evening. (£7.50) for adults and lasting an hour. I should point out that this is not for under 16's which they do tell you when you book. The house is seriously creepy and if you're easily spooked this one might not be for you. I am a very open minded person and took it all with a pinch of salt to be honest but inside i came over a bit strange! There are no planned jumps and actors grabbing you and you advised not to touch each other so that if you are touched, yoiu know it's by one of the resident ghosts. The guide actually lives in one half of the house and is willing to share his experiences with you. Some interesting tales are told. For £7.50 you can't go wrong if this is up your street.

“interesting and fun for kids”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

the house and the activities are fun, but in need of a bit of sprucing up in places. It kinda spoils things when you can see the plug extension cables exposed in the displays!

Thank you for your review and we are glad the children and yourself enjoyed the museum. We are sorry to hear that some exposed cabling distracting from your enjoyment. Obviously we try to keep the atmosphere of the past alive and any modern wiring is hid as much as possible but this is not always completely possible with so much lighting and electrical items around and within an old building where they cannot be 'sunk' into the walls for example. However, we have taken your comments on board and will try and see if there are any further ways of hiding these elements.
