What has greed done to the historical house of the most acclaimed writer in the English language? They just dared to transform it in a set of a film ... or in a Walt Disney World attraction! It looks fake and it is fake, indeed! Tacky and kitsch, I would say. You may like it: it looks so cozy, so neat ... But frankly speaking, do you really believe that - at Shakespeare's time - interiors were like that? Of course not, much more simple and quite austere. On our visit, we were not met by any of the fantastic interior guides. Actors were taking a break in the gardens and happily chatting among themselves, enjoying October's warm weather ... The Gift Shop, as seen in many other attractions in the UK, was very well organized and fully structured to achieve its main goal: make money from fellow travelers. Gardens are the highlites of Shakespeare's Birthplace, but beautiful gardens are one the most praised traditions in the British Isles! Well, enjoy your visit but remember you've been strongly advised: It is Orlando, Fla. not Stratford-upon-Avon!

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Shakespeare’s Birthplace. I’m sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations.

You might be interested to learn that the interior of the Birthplace was redesigned following a research project in 2000, involving inventories from Stratford homes in the 16th and 17th century. The decor in the house is based on real, existing examples of interiors from the correct period and social strata, so it really is as close as possible to how the house would have looked when Shakespeare's family lived here.

It is disappointing to hear that the usual high standards of our guiding team and in-house actors were not met on this occasion and I would like to apologise for this. I hope that you might have the opportunity to visit the house again and receive the positive experience that we aim to provide to all of our visitors.

We had allowed 40 - 60 minutes as recommended but due to the knowledgeable and friendly staff in EACH room, we spent almost two hours here! We were even treated to adhoc performances from our favourite plays as several of the staff are actors. A fascinating insight into all aspects of Elizabethan life as well as being Shakespeare's birthplace and childhood home. Brilliant.

Lots to see and learn here. The staff are really knowledgeable and the history of the building is fascinating. Allow about an hour to walk round.

An amazing place set in the heart of the town. The building itself is absolutely stunning and all the staff are great. The shop and cafe are welcoming and well-stocked too. Highly recommended!
