Very interesting and informative! Great staff, they even had 2 actors performing Shakespeare on request in garden!

Though it's a cute little house, most of what is known about Shakespeare's presence here is conjecture and best guesses. It takes a bit away from the experience when you can't help but notice words like, "this was probably where he was born..."

Although I am not a big fan of reading Shakespeare i have seen a lot of plays and movies based on his writings. My daughter on the other hand is a big Shakespeare reader so a visit to his birthplace was a must. The house is big for the times which leads to a conclusion that Shakespeare family was well off. His father apparently was selling wool on black market and was even called into court to answer for it. The family room has a bed displayed in it. According to the guide it is to show the wealth (most of the people at the time had to sleep on floors, only reach had beds and to have a spear one...). On the second floor there are bedrooms and the actual birth room. The glass window in that room has a lot of famous people signatures in it. A lot of famous actors come to this house for inspiration and there is a story of Al Pacino breaking down the moment he went into this room. There are actors in the back yard reading Shakespearian verses and you can even ask them to read something specific. The gift shop is full of everything Shakespear. I liked a sheet of magnets with very sharp frases from his plays. Overall, it was an interesting experience.

Will was born here, but made a home down the street in a much larger home and garden area. Will's Dad was a glove maker and sold wool illegally. I found this fascinating since I was curious about this period in Shakespeares home life.

I loved being inside an actual house that hasn't changed since William was born in it. Some amazing new knowledge we didn't have and were glad to know. I could have stayed for hours listening to the live entertainers who were playing their historical instruments from that time and giving us small teasers from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets.
