We live in Stratford and really like the new refurbishment of The White Swan where we frequently enjoy a drink in the evening or a coffee during a shopping trip. We were disappointed with the Sunday lunch because of the details; no horseradish with the roast beef or mint sauce with the lamb. Yorkshire puddings were stodgy and heavy. No bread with the chicken terrine, despite requesting some, and the bread served with the soup was stale and unappetising. The beef was good and so were the roast potatoes but the service was very slow. So much so that we left before dessert and went to a nearby coffee house for cakes and coffee to finish our meal.
We really want the establishment to do well in the town but they need to pull their socks up if they want to compete with the other hotels. We shall not be eating here again.

Stayed two nights, visiting Stratford specifically to see "Anthony & Cleopatra" at the Swan Theatre.

It's well situated, close to the pedestrian area, main shops and restaurants; a gentle 10 min walk to the theatre.

Parking is an issue at this hotel - there isn't any, save for a handful of spaces for disabled drivers. However there is clear advice on the booking confirmation on two nearby public car parks. On arrival the best plan is to pull up in the limited space at the rear of the hotel and pause in the delivery area to offload cases, check-in and then relocate your car.

The rooms have been stylishly refurbished. We had one of the cheaper rooms (115). It was spacious, as was the bathroom with a good size bath and an efficient shower. We had a view of the fire escape, no more than that.

Breakfast was outstanding, especially the full English dish. On the service front, the staff were slow to deal with shortages in the buffet. On the first morning, I finished off the muesili. On the second morning (when we were quite early for breakfast), the empty jar was still there. Also on the first morning, the natural yoghurt had run out but no one had checked and arranged for it to be replenished. Against this, orders were taken promptly, the food arrived quickly and was very well presented, all without any sense of being rushed.

We had dinner on the second evening. The food itself and the service were excellent, although some might find the portions on the small side.

On both evenings we spent a short time in the bar. As another reviewer reported, you don't come in here for a cheap beer, It's more of a lounge with rustic features and divided into small areas. Very relaxing with a good atmosphere.

Overall, the hotel was very comfortable, good value, good food and (mostly) good service. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If a view is important, check with the hotel first. Most rooms do not have one worthy of the name.

Stayed 1 night . Fantastic stay , great food , lovely room ( 101) , friendly staff .
Would like to have stayed for longer. Hotel rooms are well appointed and the cocktail our waiter dreamed up for us was scrumptious .

First of all I must say we had a lovely stay in September 2012 BUT we popped in for a drink tonight after booking in to the premier inn up the road and for a pint and single g and t it was £9.60 !!! We had the same drink over the road for £6.40. Also the service at the bar was shocking, a couple of Spanish girls had ordered a bottle of wine and were kept waiting 10 minutes ( I kid you not) because no one could find a corkscrew ! My advice would be pay £29 for a room at the premier inn and spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

We booked a room at the white swan for our wedding anniversary and couldn't have asked for a better stay. We arrived early and was told our room wasn't ready (which we were expecting as we arrived at 1pm and check in isn't till 3) the guy on reception pointed us in the direction of the restaurant and said our room would be ready after we had finished eating. We were greeted by two members of staff who were both very welcoming and we were shown to a table next to a huge roaring fire were we could watch the world go by. We ordered from the a la carte menu and we weren't disappointed. The food was fantastic and so was the service. The waiter popped over to top up water, wine and to make sure we had everything we needed. After dinner we were showed to our room, again no complaints. The room was spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed, the roll top bath was lovely and the rain shower was even better. We went out in the evening and returned to the hotel for drinks, to find that the bar area was quite full with drinkers which made a great atmosphere (again with a fantastic fire!!). The following morning we went down to breakfast and were equally impressed. We were immediately seated with coffee and toast, we ordered from the menu and whilst waiting helped ourselves to the buffet. Then it was time to pack up and check out.
Every member of staff we encountered were friendly and acknowledged us wherever we was for the whole stay. The white swan is a fantastic hotel and we definitely want to return, thanks to the whole team for making our anniversary a special one.
