The White Swan Hotel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 24, 2012

We were wandering through Stratford considering our dinner options when we found the White Swan. The menu looked interesting so we got a drink and placed our order. I chose the lamb, my wife - who has certain food allergies so has to be careful - the chicken. The duty manager, Chris, was very attentive to these issues and they ended up making a special sauce for my wife's chicken. Everything was not as we expected - but far far better than we expected. The presentation, the flavor, the service were all outstanding. Our only regret is that we leave tomorrow and can't eat there again.

We stopped in here for lunch before a walking tour of Stratford-upon-Avon today, thinking we would have an okay bite of food before trekking around the picturesque town for a few hours. We were immediately warmly greeted and allowed to wander through the beautiful joining rooms to pick where to eat.
A drinks order and concise menu later, we chose what turned out to be some delicious light lunch choices including a beautiful mackerel dish and a comforting and fresh sandwich. Drinks, coffee and lunch for 2 with change from £20 - outstanding value.
Later in the day, following a fabulous walk of the town and a jug of Pimm's, we returned for a spot of afternoon tea. Expecting tea for one to simply tickle the appetite of 2 ravenous women, we were greeted by a lavish afternoon tea stand which more than sated our appetites. This included spectacular swan shaped eclairs and absolutely irresistible finger sandwiches, along with perfect scones accompanied by beautiful runny jam and gorgeous clotted cream.
Again, under £20 for 2 including a crisp glass of prosecco and a more than generous jug of iced water, we felt as though we were ripping this newly opened pub restaurant off - particularly when compared to steep london prices!
The little details also thoroughly impressed, from attentive but friendly service through to the exceptionally clean and luxurious bathrooms. Given the look of the refurbished hotel attached, we will definitely be returning for much longer stay in the future.

My family stayed here recently and the welcome we got from Sarah, the assistant manager, was outstanding. You could not fault this hotel and their friendly, helpful and cheerful staff. The room was beautifully furnished and en-suite perfect. As the hotel is centrally located its a perfect base for anyone wanting to see Stratford and surrounding countryside. The meal in the restaurant was excellent as was the service and all very reasonably priced. The breakfast we were served was superb and again nothing is too much trouble for all of the staff here. This is definitely one of the best hotels i've experienced. Thank you again Sarah.

We have just returned from a weekend in Stratford. The hotel is absolutely immaculate ,the rooms are spacious and the food is amazing. But by far it's greatest asset is the staff. They are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

There are lots of hotels who could learn a lot from these people.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side are quiet.

I recently stayed at the The White Swan with some colleagues attending a business conference. The staff were highly attentive and friendly - it seemed like nothing was too much for them. The newly refurbished rooms were immaculate and well equipped and the restaurant is a must, everyone in our party said the rib eye was one of the best steaks they'd ever had!

I'm sure I'll visit again!

The White swan has just been fully renovated - initially given room 108 which was on the corner of two corridors and heard doors opening all night as the bed head was on the wall where one of the doors were. Also the hotel has issues with rattling pipes in the walls and our room had a leaking toilet that was refilling all night. As we were booked in for 2 nights we requested to be moved and the staff were very obliging. "Rob" was very polite and understanding and moved us to room 203 which was much better and quieter. No problems with pipes or doors banging. They are obviously having a few "teething problems" after a major renovation but is well worth it. Mark in the breakfast/pub section was delightful, very helpful with suggestions for visiting different tourist locations and is very professional. The White swan is perfectly situated for access to the town and would highly recommend it. Was a bit pricy at £130 per night.

Room Tip: Do not ask for 108!!

Really Surprised

We haven’t stayed in this area for years and didn’t remember this place as a hotel, always thought it was just a pub. When we read that it was a hotel we decided to give it a go, the price suited our budget and the location was perfect with the train station 5 minutes one way and the quaint town 5 minutes in the other direction. We didn’t have a car with us but we did overhear the receptionist telling another guest that they have reduced rates with the car park right behind the hotel.
We were informed our room was at the front of the hotel and a chap was sent with us to carry our bags, this actually turned into a bit of a guided tour of what we discovered was a newly upgrade yet historic building, this was so useful as we found out the hotel had only been opened a week and all of the staff were brand new too. We were also fortunate enough to get a sneak peak at one of their extra special rooms, the one we saw was called Macbeth – it was amazing and we will certainly be booking that room on our next visit, it even had the original bed from the olden days. Our room although the cheapest available was fantastic and we couldn’t find fault with it. All of the rooms had Shakespeare quotes outside, so makes the trip to the room interesting.
We already had plans for dinner so didn’t eat at the hotel but it seemed popular when we walked through. Breakfast the next morning was lovely, yes as previous reviews have mentioned service was a little slow at times but this is only because the staff take the time to talk to you rather than rush you in and out like a conveyor belt.
On the whole an enjoyable experience and a really fitting hotel for the area.
