Just returned from a night at Billesley Manor. We could not fault the checkin & had a great dual aspect huge room with four poster bed (not sure if all rooms are the same, so we may have been spoilt). Dinner was fantastic - excellent quality & well presented. Beautiful gardens & outdoor seating for drinks. Very good value for money.

Booked two premium double rooms to celebrate a birthday with a family member. Prior to arriving I phoned ahead to book spa treatments and dinner at the hotel on the first night. On arrival, we were told that there was no record of our restaurant booking and that they would "just have to squeeze us in"; not exactly a great welcome!

Found our way to our rooms via a maze of tired and dated corridors. Note to those with heavy bags/walking difficulties there is no lift and the rooms are quite spread out.

Our rooms were a real disappointment to be honest. No air con and the room was baking. Furnishing wise they were ok but definitely not the luxurious we were expecting for a premium room. To be honest it looked like it had been "refurbished" very cheaply and, having stayed in plenty of 4 star hotels over the world, not up to 4 star levels. In addition, our rooms looked out on the kitchens (not great for a premium room) which meant we were disturbed the moment work commenced for breakfast. Another weird "feature" of the room was that there was no wardrobe, just some Ikea-like open hanging structure. Room did have two small bottles of water but no indication of whether they were complimentary or not. there was no tv or hotel guide (apparently they are updating) but something would definitely be better than nothing in that department.

Having settled in our room went off to find the restaurant. On arrival we were told there was no record of us (hotel receptionist had indicated she would tell them of the reservation issue) and we were made to feel completely unwelcome. So much so we were removed from the main dining room and placed into another room completely on our own (where we sat isolated as persona non grata until a coach load of foreign tourists came to join us). At one point someone from the hotel management came over to see how we were and to offer us a complimentary drink but the conversation was distinctly awkward and we don't know whether the drink was offered in apology (there was no "sorry" or explanation as to the reason) or just as a welcome. Food was distinctly average (tough duck), expensive and the service was poor. Not an experience I would want to go through again.

After a drink in the bar we retired to bed. Again, these were simply ok but nothing special. Pillows and duvet are synthetic, and it would have been nice to have had the choice of down, but that's just a minor niggle.

In the morning we discovered that neither room had hot water, not something you want to discover on any day but especially when you are paying for the privilege! A phone call to tell reception (note no real apology from the hotel) and a promise that someone would "be on it".

Breakfast was varied and a good experience although I would share the comments on other reviews re the congealed eggs under the hot lamps, plus it would have been nice to have the choice of poached eggs or eggs cooked to order but that's a minor improvement.

After breakfast we went off to have our spa treatments, and the spa receptionist had clearly been on the "warm and friendly welcome" course, a real contrast to the hotel staff, and very well received by us! Therapists were great and this is clearly a real asset to the hotel. We didn't us the pool etc but it looked nice and not too busy.

We checked in with reception about the hot water situation as we were leaving to the hotel for the day and spoke to the same manager from the previous evening to be told (hey were on it; again no apology (surely a norm?) and a course in customer service is clearly required here!

Location of the hotel is good for Stratford, an easy and straight forward drive, and parking in town is easy and plentiful.

Back at the hotel we had hot water (Hurrah). There was a wedding in progress (would have been nice to have been notified at booking/reception) and althoughrour room location meant we walked right past/ through it, actually the disturbance wasn't too great.

The next morning one room had no hot water (again) and to be honest that emphasised our desire to leave this hotel. Now I recognise that the hotel was a bit unfortunate with the problems we incurred but quite honestly if they had handled them better (and actually been apologetic) we might have been more forgiving.

In summary, my take away was that the hotel was over priced for what it was (average rooms etc). Service was poor and I think there are probably better places to spend your money. In fact I would probably stay in a premier inn over this hotel, at least then you know what you are paying for! Sorry Billesley but you really must do better.

Sincerest apologies for the points you have raised, all will be discussed with the team managers to ensure that further training takes place. An electrical problem caused the hot water problems and this has been resolved, I am sorry that it impacted on your stay. Thank you for your comments, I can assure you that improvements will be made where necessary. Kind regards

Ideally situated to visit all the attractions in Stratford upon Avon, Warwarck and surrounding areas. Hotel very clean & comfortable, ( I suffer with a bad back so mattress to soft for me - my husband had no problem) the spa/swimming pool the icing on the cake, after a lot of walking & sight seeing to come back & chill in pool was fantastic. Breakfast was first class, as we had a dinner cruise on the Avon one night, which was excellent value for money (Countess of Evesham)t & ate in Stratford at the Laughing Budda Chinese restaurant, again really good value for money., we are unable to comment on the restaurant in the hotel.

Stayed for a two night break via Secret Escapes. The value for the visit was outstanding with a really nice room (36) offering pleasing views of the front garden. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary and arrived to find a chilled bottle of sparkling awaiting - most welcome and many thanks. Dinner was excellent in a nice oak panel dining room. Breakfast was buffet style offering cereals, fruit, fruit juice, cold meats and fish, toast and a cooked breakfast. The scrambled egg was good with smoked salmon!

In addition there is a pleasing indoor pool at the spa, nicely heated, with a well stocked gym if you overdid it the night before.

If you are interested in stately homes and gardens we managed to cover Ragley Hall (very good indoor tour), Ann Hatherways cottage (busy but worth the trip) and Hidcote Manor Gardens (National Trust). We loved Hidcote which is a masterpiece and in a lovely setting.

Lastly we had a really good lamb dinner the second night at The Brasserie restaurant, The Broadway Hotel, The Green, Broadway WR12 7AA. Broadway is very beautiful with lovely architecture and well worth a visit if you have time.

Thank you for your great review, Billesley Manor is ideally situated for so many midlands atractions, next time why not visit Charlcote Park or Upton House followed by afternoon tea at Walton Hall (part of the Puma Hotels Collection).

Stayed here last nighton a Secret Escapes dinner bed & breakfast deal. It was my husband's birthday and they upgraded our room on request. It was a lovely room overlooking the garden. The dinner was excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a trip to the gym and swim in the pool. Can't praise it enough - a great deal and lovely treat for my husband!

Room Tip: We were given room 31 which was lovely - jacuzzi bath, large comfy bed, overlooking the topiary gard...

Problem with this hotel is that I will readily compare it to two others that we always stay at in the area. This hotel is very nice and would suit the 'coach party' (I'm saying that because two arrived during our stay). The staff seemed really geared up for those visits. It wasn't quite the same for us though. Service seemed a little slower, a little less focused. It was nice but appeared better for 'the masses'. Other hotels in the area provide a slightly more 'elite, better quality' service in my opinion. What were my expectations then? Having spent 5 years in a row at Ettington Park, I guess I was expecting that standard of accommodation, service and dining. Billesley was a nice hotel and would suit many.

Thank you for posting your review.
I am pleased to read that you found the hotel nice. The hotel does cater for coach parties amongst many other guests and we strive to achieve the same level of service throughout the hotel for all our visitors.
I do hope that you will stay with us again.
Kind Regards.

We booked a two day break through Living Social which consisted of bed, breakfast and evening meal for both nights and a cream tea for one day.
The Manor is a beautiful building that has recently been upgraded successfully. The room (24) was adequate and the bathroom was a little small.
The public rooms are very comfortable and we found all the staff including the manager really helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble.
The quality of the food in the restaurant was very good and the service was fine.
The grounds are really beautiful and well maintained.
All in all an excellent hotel that is trying very hard to please.
