“A real hidden gem”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

We actually stayed here as a bolt hole after visiting a very boring exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham.

The hotel exceeded all our expectations and was a truly romantic setting for a fanatstic evening away from work / parasaitic offspring! Fantastic service, amazing food and a very friendly team with a real can do attitude.

The trip was in January to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Manor is very impressive as you approach, and the reception was warm and welcoming. The general decor is not just tired but could be described at tatty. The four poster room (8) although full of character, was in need of redecoration, the wardrobe was a jousting tent constructed across a corner of the room and the bathroom was poorly decorated with a bath slip mat that was very very badly stained. The room overlooked the gardens and had lovely views.

The restaurant, the staff, and the dinner were all excellent. All members of the restaurant staff were very attentive, particularly the manager, and the service was very good. Breakfast however was buffet style, disappointing, and only just warm. If you want something hot I would suggest asking for poached eggs which are cooked separately.

The spa offers a good rang of treatments and the staff are very friendly. I had a back massage which I would highly recommend. We didn't use the pool but it looked quite welcoming.

Would I go back - possibly, as it was reasonably good value for money with the package we purchased.
Would I recommend it - probably not, at full price i would have expected more attention detail.

Thank you for your review, I am pleased that you found the team attentive and the food at dinner excellent. Breakfast is ordinarily cooked to order, I will investigate further to establish why this was not the case. I sincerely hope you will return in the future, we continue to work through the hotel refreshing the bedrooms, and enhancing the beautiful features the hotel offers.

Booked a valentines night package,on arrival the manor looks beautiful and reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The room we were given was a twin room! hardly romantic,on trying to find the number for reception my wife opened a bedside drawer and found a dirty pair of knickers, great start!. We were offered an upgrade to a choice of rooms from the friendly reception staff, we stayed in a four poster room ,although it had charm it was let down by poor decor in the bathroom, ripped wallpaper and cobweb above bath also the bodywash, shampoos etc were poor.
The meal was booked for 8.15 and we waited with a drink in bar area and were given menus and left until 8.45,we asked if we had a table booked and was given an abrupt reply by restaurant manager who asked my wife if he should go away and come back to try and diffuse the situation, he later apologised which was fine, our romantic table was a table for four! oh dear we had to ask for a table for two .The meal thank god was very good, well done chef!
The spa area and pool were poor and not even to standards of local swimming pools, very dissappointing. You pay good money to stay in this hotel which is let down by so many things.
My advice would be take a look around the area for similar prices you get far better service! sorry reception staff you were great.

Stayed here on our tesco clubcard points, saved them up for a while and decided to have a week end away. Old hotel with a little history thrown in, very nice surroundings. Rooms were ok fairly large, not too worried about the hanging space that others complained about, open plan! Leisure facilities, beware if you have children as there are time limits to the use of the pool. Reception and other staff very helpful arranged a cab to take us in to stratford. Nice and clean. The food in the evenings was enjoyable, wine expensive but a good selection. Breakfast disappointing, first morning supposed fresh cooked breakfast but it was in my opinion heated through, not freshly cooked, and on the sunday it was the usual help yourself from the trough type with heat lamps, urrgh why do they bother. All in all i would have been a little disappointed if we had paid real money for this,i believe others who stayed had paid over £100 per person per night dbb a little more attention to detail would have made this a special stay. Sorry billesley not quite there yet!

Just spent an enjoyable day here - a belated treat for a friends birthday. Jacqui at the spa helped to make it really special by looking after us well. The pool area was lovely and warm, although the surroundings a liitle sparse. Afternoon tea, taken in the panelled bar area, was lovely - fresh sandwiches, scones and cream, assorted slices of cake, very tasty mousse type sweets and a glass of fizz each! Very good value. All the staff very friendly and helpful. Would go again.
