“Good Location”

The hotel was booked for conference here and the hotel is really nice. The staff is helpful and rooms are big & nice. Breakfast is good but can be better as options are not very much. Dinner is ok but not of very great taste.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your time writing this review. I have spoken to our Head Chef who will address the lack of taste during your dinner while you attended a conference at the hotel. We do prepare all our food fresh and we have just had an AA inspection and have again for 2012-2013 been awarded an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence.

I hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind regards,

Marnix Teeken

We stayed in the Hamlet room in the main hotel. This is our third stay here. The hotel is in the ideal location for all the normal tourist bits and pieces. The room was fantastic, decorated to a high standard, clean and well furnished with everything we needed. The staff were attentive without being annoying and each request was dealt with quickly and without fuss. The restaurant is of high quality for both breakfast and dinner. We stayed here on our first wedding anniversay and our 25th and again as a short break this week. We did have on problem with a restaurant bill which when I brought it to the attention of the staff was sorted out very quickly without any fuss. I would stay here again without even thinking about it. Congratulations to the STAFF who made our stay very enjoyable, always smiling and happy to see you.

Room Tip: Ask for a named Shakespeare room in the main hotel as the Garrick wing is an annex. If you have boo...

I have stayed here quite a few times and we are also getting married here next year. There was a wedding on both days we were staying but we weren't really bothered by this. The little bar we could drink in and we went out in the evening. We had breakfast in our room so avoided the busy breakfast rush. Our room wasn't brilliant as we were in the annexe of the hotel, the rooms in the main hotel are much nicer.

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon weekend as liked the look of the hotel. Upon arrival the hotel car park was full and after a bit of driving around we found the NCP car park, which is a 5 min walk away so not really a problem. Booking in was fine and we made our way to our room. First impressions were not good, dark, dingy, small and quite tatty room, although clean and bathroom was fine. We decided to go for a walk around and find somewhere to eat as seemed quite chaotic around the restaurant area due to the wedding. We returned to the hotel around 8pm and thought we'd spend the rest of the evening in the bar, only to be told we couldn't use either of the bars as one was being used for the wedding and the other for a private function!! Needless to say we were not impressed! We were told we could sit in the areas around reception with sofas and could go to reception to ask for a drink. We spoke to the General Manager who did give us some complementary drinks but this was obviously not the evening we had planned. The chaos continued at breakfast as they were clearly not adequately staffed to deal with the amount of people arriving for breakfast. We had to wait a long time for some toast and were quite rudely spoken to when we requested it. We were told there was also a wedding the following evening so steered clear of the hotel for the night.
With the booking we were supposed to receive a free travel bag with water and a snack, this was not in our room upon arrival so I enquired at reception and was told it was actually a fruit tray and water and she would ensure it was in our room by 1pm the following day, and surprise surprise by 3pm it still wasn't there, so made a call to reception and to be fair the receptionist did then bring it up within 15 minutes.
All in all, not a great stay for our honeymoon and would personally book in at the Holiday Inn nearby if I was to visit again.

A very comfortable hotel that has retained and maintained is wonderful original facade. Great location in centre of town. Comfy bed and great sized bathroom. Restaurant and bar high quality. Off street parking a great bonus. Unfortunately, upon checking out they wouldn't accept our Australian Accor hotels gift card, a shame.

Our "suite" was just a bedroom with a sofa, which I thought misleading, but clean and comfortable. In the restaurant, the meal was good except the potatoes were hard also when I told the head waiter that I thought that the icy cold log of goat's cheese on my plate would have been edible had it been warmed, i was snootily told that he would mention it to chef. The rest of the staff were nice though. Ideally placed for wandering around the lovely old town and full of medieval atmosphere!

Dear Guests,

Great review. Thank you for your honest feedback. I would like to apologise for the lack of guest service dealing with the poor execution of the goats cheese. I am pleased that your overall stay with us was very positive.

My friend had stayed a couple of weeks previously and returned to meet me there. I think her room (our room, in the newer annexe) was better this time than last time. The staff were really friendly, we had no trouble getting served at the bar, and the room was lovely. It was fairly noisy at night, not the fault of the hotel, and incredibly noisy in the morning - what time do the Stratford rubbish collectors start? Too blooming early! Plus delivery vans leaving their engines running...Great location, though, in the centre of town, tea shops and restaurants everywhere, plus the RSC and the river less than five minutes away. Recommended!

Room Tip: Not on the main road!
