“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

We are on a 17 day tour of the UK and this is one of the best hotels so far! It is an easy walk to the lovely downtown area and has an incredible front lawn where you can sit with a drink and relax. The rooms were very clean and spacious enough and the bathroom was updated and very nice. Meals were good although the dining room staff were not very friendly. Bar area was spacious and welcoming and had several tables with comfy chairs. Dining room was a nice size and lots of tables were situated near a window. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Dear Heather D
Thank you for your Lovely review. I am pleased you have had a nice stay, however I think you have stayed at our sister hotel, The Stratford, in the town center. I am pleased that you enjoyed your meals, I know the Head Chef there prides himself on his menu.
Maybe on the return leg of your tour you would like to stay with us, we also have a fantastic terrace to enjoy a drink in the sun.
Yours sincerely

Stayed here Fri,sat & sun. The first thing to note is that if you drive up to the barrier, it opens, just like that. No problem getting in. The hotel, the staff, the spa, and the restaurant and bar were excellent. The staff were efficient and polite. The french bloke in the bar was great nothing was too much trouble for him(sorry can't remember his name) The room was very comfortable and neat and tidy.all in all a very enjoyable stay. Would stay here again

Where do I begin.... The drive into the grounds looked promising, decent car park, nice fountain, pleasant receptionist etc. however that's where the good bits finished and the disappointment began. The corridors leading to the rooms were in depressing shades of navy and brown, very drab and dark. We were given a disabled room initially, not a problem apart from the bathroom being a wet room style which would have covered the toilet and sink in water for the other person using the bathroom and emergency pull cords and handrails everywhere. This gave a feeling of a hospital rather than a romantic break that we were supposed to be on. So a trip back to reception quickly prevailed and to be fair, the receptionist found us another room even though the hotel was full. When we entered the second room we were met with a disgusting smell which can only be described as a room that has never really been cleaned properly. The window was wide open which also gave the impression that the previous occupant/maid felt the same. Not to want to complain again for fear of looking like a perpetual whinger we went straight out and drove into town where whilst shopping we bought an air freshener for the room. On returning we hoped the smell would have disappeared as we'd left the window open but were sadly disappointed. We hastily made our way out to dinner. The bar area was like a sports bar, spartan without soul, not at all inviting. The restaurant had the same empty feel- like a canteen only with a carpet. The food was the saving grace as there was plenty to choose from and well cooked. We went back to our room to retire and we were not looking forward to sleeping in that room. We found that the headboard and chair were filthy and looked liked they'd never been cleaned (grease on the headboard etc) which added to the smell. The shower had a blocked drain as the water backed up in the bath and we were met with two black beetles/earwigs that had taken up residence in the bathroom. To be honest I felt repulsed but was too tired to have to go back to reception and possibly move our belongings late at night to a third room. Needless to say sleep was erratic and we just wanted to leave as soon as possible so we loaded the car up before having a quick breakfast. The breakfast was basic, the usual full English, cereals, pastries, fruit, nothing spectacular and the coffee was like watered down treacle but it would be hard to make an impression in a dingy dining room. We couldn't wait to leave. I don't know what establishment gave this hotel 4 stars but it was from someone who had never actually stayed here. We wouldn't give it 1 star. So much planning and arranging had gone into this trip organizing childcare so we could get away on a very rare break to spend time away as a couple. A total disaster and one that we will never repeat in a Q hotel.

Room Tip: Check it's been cleaned.

Dear Madamewild
Thank you for your review following your stay with us. I am pleased that you approve of the grounds of the hotel, did you manage to try the Nature walk that traverses our 24 acres?
I am sorry that we were unable to meet you expectations in the public areas and the bedrooms. Please let me assure you that this is not the norm as can be seen in other reviews on the hotel. I do hope by perusing other guests comments you will get the re-assurance to visit ourselves or another Q Hotel in the future.
Yours sincerely

Just returned from a two night break to celebrate our wedding anniversary and have had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is set in its own grounds, barriers to enter and exit, code needed to exit, car parks well laid out with shrubs separating them into small areas. As you walk up to the front of the hotel a lovely water feature greets you with an impressive main entrance. Staff on reception were so friendly, polite and helpful it was as if they had known you years. Sorry ladies I didn't get your names but you were on duty Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Room was good, although a couple of issues were reported to reception staff and a lovely conversation with the lady from Housekeeping ensured a resolution. Thank you. Dining room staff - well what can you say - meals out of this world, very tasty, hot and delivered to your table with politeness and eager to ensure guests had everything they needed. Have stayed in several other Qhotels but this one can take first place for staff/guest relationship. Well done. First time we have stayed at this Qhotel - it won't be the last.

In the past we have stayed at the Stratford several times and that was where we were supposed to be until my lovely wife cocked up the booking. Having said that it turned out to be quite fortuitous and if I went to Stratford again I would stay here. The hotel is easily accessible from the M40 and its just a quick trip down the road into the town and easy parking near the marina. Similarly turn right out of the hotel and its only four miles to Warwick and nine to Royal Leamington Spa with its beautiful parks and underwhelming shopping.
We had a Q Star room which was a good size with a separate seating area and a drinks package thrown in. The room was clean and spacious though the bathroom was a little tired. Some of the grout needed scrubbing and the inside of the bathroom door showed evidence of damp and needed repainting.
Where the hotel loses a star is its lack of or unwillingness to use air conditioning. Our room didn't have it but came with an underpowered tower fan. The room was hot and because it was on the ground floor we didn't want to leave the windows open. If I had gone here a few weeks ago when it was very hot I would have been very unhappy.
Similarly when we dined the first night at 8.30 the restaurant was hot but on the following evening when we dined at 7.45 the aircon was on for a while then it went off with the resulting rise in temperature.
This hotel has a much nice and more airy bar than the Stratford and the restaurant seemed a little less regimented in its layout.
The food in the restaurant was excellent with one exception, a confit of pork belly came with the pork cooked beautifully bit the skin was just a layer of soft fat that should have been rendered away to leave a crisp skin. That said I can't praise their risottos enough, I had the pea and mint as a main course and the butternut squash and pine nut as a starter the next night and they were superb.
A big mention for the staff as well, they couldn't be faulted. The first time I went to the Stratford I commented on the unfriendly French staff members so a big hand for Toni the French barman here who was helpful and entertaining. Everyone was welcoming and friendly and that goes a big way to making a it a pleasant stay.
Thanks guys, you get the five stars.

Dear Tiler John
Thank you for your review of Stratford Manor. I must say I am pleased that your wife picked the wrong hotel, and am glad this turn out for the better for you. I have discussed your comments with the whole team here and the Kitchen brigade are most pleased with your thoughts. As you say the location is great, only minutes for the major transport networks and three lovely towns on our doorstep. Plenty to do on your next visit to us.

I have just returned the hotel and have a enjoyable stay, we got a great deal 2 nights including 1x dinner.
The location was great for visiting stratford and warwick as it about three mile away.
Overall the hotel was in good condition we used the pool which was also fine
Food was ok but I kept having to ask for fresh supplies of various items eggs, glasses for juice etc and waiting 25 minutes for a pot of tea but these were trivial gripes.
I will return to the hotel again if we are in the area again.
