This hotel is ok, it's convenient for the town, just a 10 minute walk in. What let it down badly was the restaurant. When you pay £18 for a steak, you expect it to be a reasonable size, and to be cooked to your requirement. This didn't happen. It was tiny, and well-done, despite being asked for medium. My meal was also disappointing. I had pork and unfortunately this was dry. The staff are lack-lustre and unenthusiastic. All in all, the restaurant has a down-beat feel to it. I noticed this at the breakfast too. Someone needs to remind the staff how important they are to the experience of the guests. My feeling is that they don't feel valued.
There was one waitress who made time to chat to us, she was very sweet and remembered us the next morning at breakfast. She was a delightful exception.
The room was lovely, but I didn't much like what I found when I pulled the two single beds apart, didn't look as if this part of the carpet had seen a hoover in some time. Not good for a hotel charging £88 per night.
The Reception staff were friendly and helpful, but I would have preferred they didn't disappear into an office when not attending to desks. I appreciate this is a small point, but I like to see the staff at the desk, not hidden away.More
