“Great Hotel with Excellent Staff”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Five minutes walk from the town centre of Stratford, it is a great location. Old and yet charming. What impressed from entering the hotel was the quality of staff, from reception to the restaurant to the housekeepers. All so friendly and willing to help. This is a hotel where the staff are clearly encouraged to add value for their guests and they did!! The quality of the food was second to none. Only small issue would have been around the variety of dishes available for dinner if staying for more than one night (we stayed for two). Breakfast, very good with plenty of choice of hot or cold food. The swimming pool, gym, sauna and steam room all again excellent and everywhere you went in the hotel, it was clean. One of the better Macdonald Hotels I have used and I will return.

Me, my wife and 2yr old son stayed overnight for a friends wedding. We had a great stay in one of the family rooms. The food was absolutely excellent, especially the child's meal - all the waitresses and waiters worked really hard to keep our glasses filled and the drinks flowing. The hotel had their own travel cots and high chairs so that was very useful.

The location of the hotel is ideal if you want to visit Stratford upon Avon. We had free complimentary parking for the entire stay and made the most of the opportunity to take a very short walk into the city centre.

I was at the Alveston Manor all alone in order to go and see A Winters Tale, on a stunningly cold Saturday. There was nothing cold about the welcome at the Manor. Charming reception staff, who let me in to my room hours earlier than checkin so I could sort myself out after a 3 hour drive, brilliant empty swimming pool, lovely evening bar staff who didn't seem to mind that I was the only one in there for about an hour, and probably one of the best massages of my life, plus being allowed to leave my car with them until late in the afternoon so I could make the most of Stratford. Don't all rush though - I'd like to have the bar and the roaring fire to myself again soon!

Room Tip: Check the air con the minute you get in - they tend to turn it up to roasting and you need to turn i...

The hotel is ideally located for visiting town, 5 minutes and you are in the Town Centre.
The staff were courteous and welcoming.
However, the hotel is not in tip top condition. Our room layout was unusual, you walk straight into the bedroom. Usually you pass the bathroom and wardrobe in most hotels. However, this is an old manor house and presumably the layout had to suit the property?
Unfortunately, the room was dusty on the areas not usually used (lower shelf on bedside table). I also dropped something on floor and when I moved the bedside table it was thick of dust behind and underneath. Suggest cleaning regime needed.

Room Tip: I would not take rooms on the ground floor near the restaurant (20 - 23 I think). Everyone passes th...

I had a spa weekend here for my hen weekend. We booked the sparking spa package, which included two 30 minute treatments, champagne & chocolates in your room, dinner & breakfast, at a very good price. I went to have a nosey around the hotel before we booked, and the reception staff were very accommodating.

Firstly, the food was delicious. The service in the restaurant was outstanding. The leisure facilities were nice and well maintained. Our rooms were a good size and were well equipped. There was a wide variety of options for breakfast. The spa was lovely, and the therapists were very good, making you feel relaxed and at ease at all times. Also, the hotel is well placed for visiting Stratford - Upon - Avon for the theatres & tourist attractions. The reception staff even let us leave our luggage with them after we had checked out while we went shopping!

The hotel is charming, the corridors meander round the hotel and having a pool is a bonus. the location is very convenient for the theatre or the other attractions in Stratford. The food in the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. I expect to visit again.

The hotel is tired.. and the manager Elusive at best.

It wasnt the fact that we didnt have all the the info about the pool area being closed on our arrival day (hence no sauna or steam room to use either before our massages) It was how the elusive Mr Aziz dealt with the problem..... He didnt! Despite the fact the front desk told me he would contact me over the weekend then assured me on leaving he would contact me on the Monday.. He didnt!
We spoke to customer services and received a weak and fanciful Email from him on how he tried to make contact.. He didnt!
Customer services seem to think that he handled everything ok! If staff were to be believed he was only there for a short amount of time over the weekend! Im not sure he was ever there.

If you have seen or know the Elusive Mr Aziz please post a picture so i can avoid him in future..

The general staff were great but the front of house was very poor.
