“Stayed in the old side of this hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Arrived about 7.30pm in time to freshen up for dinner at 8.00 sharp. Our room was at the front overlooking the arrivals and entrance gardens. This is in the old part of the hall and it was charming.
The the doorways upstairs were small so if you're tall beware! The room was adequate with the usual things, tea, coffee fridge etc and being old the floors were uneven and squeaky so lots of atmosphere which we loved. Off to the side was a dressing room of sorts that then led into the bathroom. Robes were provided aswell as four towels plus soaps gels and shampoos.
Dinner was delicious. we began with seared scallops, me, prawns with smoked salmon, wife. we both opted for the calves liver that sat on a creamy mash with onion gravy and vegetables. Puddings were lemon tart with raspberry ice cream and a toffee panacotta with honeycomb. An outstanding New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc helped things along beautifully.
Although room was at the front of the hotel we were not disturbed and had a restful night's sleep.
Breakfast was freshly cooked so had not been standing around in one of those buffet style bars. There was a little wait but that was after a bowl of fruits with plain yoghurt but it was well worth the wait.
We had two nights here spending a day walking around Chipping Campden and the first evening at the theatre which is an easy stroll across the river. Stratford is an interesting place so both the hotel and the town are worth a visit and we shall return.
Staff were always helpful so no complaints there. We had room service after the theatre really quite late and no grumbles from either of us.
My wife had a spa treatment that she found very relaxing.
Recommended without hesitation if you stay in one of the older more atmospheric rooms.

Stayed for 2 nights DBB 2.11.2012. Had complimentary afternoon tea included which was amazing very fresh and plenty of it. There was plenty of choice for dinner and the breakfast was really good. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Our room was good and had everything we needed. All in all a very pleasant weekend.

Room Tip: Rooms near the spa are much quieter

Breakfast was excellent offering continental, full english, toast, cereals etc. Spa and healthe facilites were excellent. Could not fault the hotel or staff. We had a great break.

We have just returned from a weekend at Alveston Manor.
On arrival, the reception staff were very courteous and efficient.
Our room was clean, a decent size, with plenty of storage.
The bed was ok, but we did tend to roll towards each other.
Location is perfect. Just a short walk over the river to the town centre and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Breakfast was fine - you help yourself to cereal and cold buffet, then order a cooked breakfast and as much toast as you like.
We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening.
The only bad point was the temperature in the dining room. One woman even kept her coat on !
We pointed this out when we checked out (as did lots of others) and the receptionist said it would be reported to maintenance.

Stayed here last week for 3 nights on business.
It has to be, without doubt, the noisest hotel I have ever stayed in! My room was on the ground floor, the corridors are so narrow I could easily stand in the middle and touch both walls at the same time. The floorboards are so loose and noisy, everytime someone walked by the whole room shook! I could also hear people's conversations in the corridor, and when inconsiderate people come back to their room at 2am shouting and chatting outside their rooms is not much fun.
Probably the best thing about this place is breakfast. There was lots of choice and it was good fresh food. The last morning there was obviously a lack of staff, I arrived for breakfast at 7.10 and the doors were locked, it was supposed to open at 7, lots of the buffet was not ready. Rubbish service when people started coming in when there are only 2 people to serve everyone.
Had to pay £5 to park there for the 3 nights, and also had to pay a £3 credit card charge when checking out!
There is no free wi-fi, and to top it all, a cup of tea costs £4.55 - yes, that is correct! Shocking.
Needless to say I wont be staying there again.....

Room Tip: Might be quieter upstairs.

Electrocuted by the plug in the room, which kept cutting out and sparking, and the manager did not even bother to ask if we would like to change rooms. Said, rather unhelpfully, "dont use the plug". Apparently despite no electrical knowledge she assured us that a fuse had gone (power still on) and we had nothing to worry about. Apparently we were not worth a call out to an electrician at 6pm on a friday night. Really poor! Plus the rooms are dark and gloomy and the hallways are noisy!

We found all of the staff, without exception, to be attentive, courteous and polite. Akshada was a star!
Considering there were two weddings and a very large 40 th wedding anniversary celebration occurring, the quality of the service and the food which we received did not suffer.
The six rooms that we occupied for the two nights were clean, well furnished and comfortable.
In summary we would heartily recommend this hotel.
