4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Staff were friendly and the service was good. The restaurant evening meal food was good, though not superb, however breakfast made up for any shortcomings though. A lovely little Spa with swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Treatments reasonably priced. Got thoroughly beaten up by a very petite masseuse.

Stayed for just one night with family in a very spacious Junior Suite, with separate room for the girls.
Great value night with use of the Spa which was bigger than expected and of a very high standard. Thankfully it also allowed the children in for a while and the atmosphere was relaxed enough for them to have a play. The girls were delighted to find an Apple Mac in the room for TV and internet use. Good tea and coffee facilities and very nice recently refurbished bathroom.

I was expecting the Grand old building to be a little shabby, as many old country hotels can be, but I was impressed that it was well maintained and having the modern purpose built light filled spa made a big difference.

Breakfast was delicious, with buffet and a la carte. My Eggs Benedict were extremely good and we had a lovely view over the gardens too.

Only slight issue was that the room was too hot and the only available bathroom shelf was directly above the toilet, which meant the items that fell off the shelf fell down the loo.

Dear Nessiepie

Thank you for the very kind words , we are really glad you had a good stay and appreciated the newly refurbished rooms - we refurbished the whole hotel and finished last Summer. The Apple iMacs have gone down really well with all our guests so I'm glad your girls liked it as well.
Sorry that you found the room a bit too hot - it is that time of year where we don't know whether to have it on or off !
Look forward to seeing you again soon
Kind regards
Greg

on arrival, we were checked in swiftly.
Room was overlooking the reception, perfect view.
Good sized room, with a clothes room too.
Very clean
How other friends did have to move due to a problem in the bathroom, however this was not a problem. Staff arranged as quickly as they could.
Breakfast excellent, dinner perfect 3 course meal.
Our complete stay was set a good value, we also had a free sp treatment.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We could not fault this hotel, restuarant or spa ... we would highly recommend this hotel for a lovely, relaxing weekend break.
The hotel is very romantic, so its also ideal to stay here if you were a couple.

Thank you all for a lovely weekend,

My wife and I were made to feel at home right away from friendly front desk. Beautiful room. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Waiting staff very friendly and attentive. Drinks were reasonably priced for a hotel. Well appointed spa - not really the main reason for our stay, but my wife and I used it once - pool, sauna, steam room etc. Well recommended - ideally situated for visiting the Bard. Difficult to find fault.

Room Tip: Can't say anything about any rooms other than ours - Room no. 1 - excellent.

Stayed for 2 nights for work and would very much recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.

Nothing is too much trouble for the hospitality team. The hotel itself is like a glorious Victorian National Trust building with high ceilings, sumptuous fabrics, huge beds and a bath so big and deep I could float!

A group of us Lady Golfers (first night 12 of us, 2nd night 28) went there for a couple of nights. The first night we were in the Restaurant and the service was extremely slow. We sat down to eat at 8, we waited over an hour for our main and our dessert eventually arrived at 10:10. Breakfast in the morning was even worse we had to ask at least 4 times for toast and drinks, they eventually arrived after a 20 min wait. The staff were just wandering around aimlessly. In the evening we were in a seperate room and the service was excellent. We also had our breakfast in there the 2nd morning and the service from the Staff was much better.
On the plus side the food is very good and the Spa and Pool excellent.
The room was OK, a bit "worn" and the pillow was lumpy and like concrete. We had also asked for a twin but was a double, we rang reception and they promised to send someone straight away. When we got back to the room that evening about 11 it still hadn't been done so we had to ask again. Thankfully they did send someone quite quickly.
The Golf course is superb, in beautiful condition considering the weather we've had.
