The Balti Kitchen was mentioned by the hotel where I booked, but not specifically by name. I remember that an Indian meal was first on the list of alternatives suggested. After walking up and down the main street in Stratford BK seemed to offer the best value for money by offering a starter, main, Cobra beer or glass of wine, ending with a choice of tea or coffee all for £12.95, very reasonable I thought.
Well what a pleasant suprise. The restaurant was comfortable enough but what was special was the attentiveness of the staff. To me the food tasted so much better after discussing the choice of starter and main, then going with the waiter's recommendations. The mixed starter comprised fresh and tender cooked sizzling meats. The main dish was on the special list and had been cooked in the way suggested by the waiter following our conversation. This personalised service really made the meal more enjoyable for me. It led me to take my time thinking about the freshness and variety of spices that I was tasting.
The formula offered by BK this evening, I think would work well in most locations, including Oxford where the market for restaurants is competitive. Focus on quality and customer service works everywhere.
