Been to The Cross several years ago when going through Kenilworth. As we were passing through Kenilworth this evening we thought we would try the Cross again as we were on that side of town. Decided to revist rather than going to The elephant and Castle or Harrington's. Lets deal with the positives - house wine excellent, starter delicious and good flavours and staff alpha +++ - from there onwards it goes down hill!. Rib eye steak - no flavour and not recognised as rib eye cut. We indicated that we were not happy with steak Informed that it must have been bad batch of meat from butcher (* tip to the Cross - change your butcher as it was not rib eye as we know it! ) :Desert - Baked Alaska - no meringue and uncooked egg whites. When discussed with staff informed that it was the chief's interpretation of 'Baked Alaska'. really who is paying the bill the customer or the chief! ( tip to the chief - give the customer what he asked for!)
After our mention of our disappointment with the 'Rib eye' and 'Baked 'Alaska' food there was no offer to deducted the food off the bill, which we thought and understood was mandatory in the UK! We eat out in Warwickshire 3 / 4 a week. Frankly we are 'cheesed off' paying top prices for mediocre and inferior quality food. Apparently there must be a lot of chief's who's egos exceed their culinary abilities and must be waling a tight rope! We are going through a recession and a lot of restaurants must 'up their game' to survive. Very Very disappointed with our experience this evening.
