We picked this place for a family get-together because it is equidistant between Hampshire and Cheshire. Great location just off the M40/A46 link. Big car-park. Good dog-walking. The beds were comfy. Rooms well appointed. Clean. Luxurious. The staff also did ther best. The pool was smallish but clean. The dinners and breakfast were quite good but the feeling was definitely of a large hotel, with plenty of hustle and bustle and long corridors like an ocean liner. It is your typical manor house with seventies annex, which they have done in a BIG way, and conference centre. There was also a wedding fair on during our stay. Ouch!
Only two real complaints were 1) the slightly worrying smell between the bar and the restaurant (maybe the continual sticky-carpet caused by cheapskates carrying their drinks from one place to another, or was is a more serious plumbing/damp problem?) and 2) the dreaded 'hold-your-breath' entrance, which was stiff with fag-smokers, staring into the middle distance, slowly poisoning themselves and us. Can't some facilities be improvised for these mammals, preferably down the bottom of the garden? Can't wait until they ban it completely. It spoils what is otherwise quite a nice, grand entrance to the hotel.

Room Tip: I think the exec rooms are on the top floor

Pros to this hotel are: food was great, customer service was great, treatments were excellent and staff were lovely.
Cons: Be warned!!! we were told on the phone when we booked the hotel we could pay on departure, but when we actually got there we were told, we had to pay the full amount into a holding account via credit or debit card!!!! I was fuming because we had to call on a family member for help. Thought this was well out of order, and we should of been told before so we could sort it.
Pool is very small only enough room for 4-5 people width wise.
But apart from that, the room wasnt brilliant but the customer service and treatments were brilliant, and more than made up for it.

Dear christine d

Thank you for taking the time to review your spa break and I am delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay and our friendly team looked after you well.

However, I am very sorry you were given the wrong information regarding payment. It is normal procedure in all hotels to take an authorisation on a credit or debit card on arrival, to guarantee that we receive payment for the stay, the transaction is then completed when you check out. We would also give the option to pay cash on arrival.

I do hope this will not deter you from returning to Chesford Grange and QHotels on a future occasion.

Kind regards

For the first time we opted to return to the same venue for our Annual Conference, culminating in a black tie for 200 guests on the final evening.

Would it be as good as last year? Would the facilities still be in good nick? Would the service and attention to detail still be as impressive?

This was not the case....remarkably all aspects had improved, which is no mean feat given the exceptional standards set last year.

If you are looking for a large venue for an annual conference only 30 minutes from a major airport and located centrally in the UK you would be foolish not to give the Chesford Grange serious consideration.

Finally and possibly most importantly, when the Chesford Grange allocate you a member of their staff to run your conference, ask, no insist on Simon.

Yet another wonderful stay at a Qhotel.
Very friendly welcoming staff, clean leasure facilities, exquisite hotel room. Our evening meal was to a high standard although I think the waiting staff struggled as it got busy and a few people had a lenghthy wait for their orders.
My only criticism is that breakfast was a little disappointing due to the lack of hot food, there appeared to only be one chef who struggled with the demand. This said we had an amazing stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

On arrival we had to battle our way past all the smokers crowed around the front doors. Not a great first impression. Once inside things didnt pick up.
There was a huge line of people waiting to check in and only two staff on the desk. Several people stood around drinking Carling out of cans. Classy hotel!
After about 20 mins we got checked in and headed for the room.
Room was acceptable. Clean and tidy with everything you would expect for a mid range hotel.
We headed for dinner about 8. This is where things went really wrong. We were sat down in a large, cold dining room along with about 7 other tables. There were 3 waiting staff and who I guess was a manager. 20 mins after sitting down and not even having been asked what we want to drink I headed to the bar to get some drinks. On my return to the table a lady turned up to take out order. 1 hour 15 minutes later our meal turned up. It was not worth the wait. Two of us had steaks and two fish with risotto. The steaks (although not cooked as requested) were acceptable. Had we not been starving though I would have got them to try and cook them again. One of the risottos was passable the other indelible. The rice was not cooked so we sent it back and requested another. In hindsight that was our fault. The second one arrived and was no better than the first. Again, due to hunger it was eaten and immediately regretted. Spent the whole night on the toilet!
Next morning we had to raise this with the manager, who unfairness, handled our complaint very professionally. He said that meal would be free and to come again that night and we would be looked after.
Sadly, we were not. The service was a bit quicker but the quality of food was again lacking.
We stayed at this hotel as we were going to the shooting show so location was perfect. 5 mins from venue.
The girls stayed at the hotel to use the 'spa' facilities. Another joke.
There was a small pool and grotty steam room but no sauna. The treatments by all accounts were nice.
All in all a poor experience. Wouldn't let this taint all Q hotels as we have stayed in others and had a really good stay. Think this particular hotel is a bit low end.

Dear LPML1977

Thank you for your review and I would like to re - iterate our sincere apologies for your poor dining experience. As you can appreciate, we do not like guests to leave the hotel with a poor impression and I hope the gesture by the Duty Manager went in some way to make amends.

I can assure you this is not typical of or normal standards as you can see by reading other reviews so I hope it will not deter you from from returning to either Chesford Grange or another QHotel in the future.

Kind regards
