“Good stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2012

We chose this hotel as we wanted a hotel in warwickshire that we could use our tesco rewards on and this one was available.

When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who actually upgraded us to a superior room which we found to be very spacious, very clean and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was nice with a big bath and shower cubicle.

The hotel is situated on a main road with a short walk to many restaurants and a couple of pubs.

Breakfast was good, there was self service for cereals and pastries and a cooked breakfast was made to order which I prefer, I never find breakfast as nice when it is self service.

Kenilworth is very quiet overall, there is no shortage of restaurants but if you want a more varied nightlife, Leamington Spa is only 10 minutes away, we jumped on a bus which cost £6.50 return for the 2 of us.

We found all the staff very helpful and was made to feel very welcome.

Overall a very enjoyable stay

The hotel is on a main road and close to several good restaurants and pubs. It is a fairly old style hotel, which has undergone some refurbishment but is a bit shabby in places. Personally I liked the friendly feel and the Anglo-Indian decor style of the bar/breakfast room, but if you like a sleek modern hotel this is not the place for you.
The highlight of our stay was the staff, who were welcoming, helpful, and professional.
Our room, although small, was clean and comfortable. It had obviously had some recent updates, such as new bathroom tiles and fittings, but other areas were shabby, such as the paintwork on the doors and skirting. The bed had nice white linen and the bath towels were large and soft, but the bed was a bit hard for our liking and there was quite a bit of noise from other rooms.
It has its own car park, which was free to guests but not very clearly marked out. Internet is free with a code from reception.
Breakfast is a self service buffet for pastries and cereal or you can order a full English breakfast. We ordered bacon, which was very nicely cooked and quickly served.
We stayed here because we were going to Stanford Hall, which is fairly close by; as are many other attractions such as Warwick Castle and Coventry Cathedral, both worth a visit.
Overall - some good points and some not so good, so it comes out with an average score.

Stayed here for one night prior to attending an event at warwick university . It is as other reviewers say quite shabby and could do with a refub in the public areas ie stairs /landing ...However, my room although small was very clean with plenty of towels ample tea and cofee and just what I needed for the one night .. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly and helpful .. I would recommend if going on buisness or just spending a night there .. You get what you pay for in this world

me and my husband visited this hotel in april 2012,we found it pleasant but in serious need of modernisation.our room was extremly tiny and although clean there was black mould in the very small shower.the bathroom looked like it was some very amateur patch up work and seriously needed a refit.the tv didnt work properly and wasnt many coffee/tea satchets in our room, the bed was also uncomfortable and didnt see very well.the breakfast was also below par we didnt want a meat breakfast so was offered poach eggs which would have been nice but they werent cooked and the whites were still raw so ended up just having cheese on toast....i have stayed at a best western hotel before and always been happy but this is one i would never visit again!!

I have stayed in many hotels and Best Western are among the better ones however this was a disgrace.

My company paid £59 for this in advance. If I had paid I would have walked out.
The room was extremely small and dingy. The shower was filthy and very weak. The decor was shabby. Walls were thin and I could here every noise through the night which did not give me a pleasant sleep.

Breakfast was served by a waiter with bad body odour. I left the cooked breakfast (first time ever).

Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else

We booked 3 double rooms at the Peacock Hotel and we were lucky enough to be upgraded with one of them. We arrived Good Friday afternoon and check in was fast, friendly and efficient. The upgraded room 204 was large and clean with lots of storage. Bedding was good quality and there were lovely, thick, white towels. The bathroom contained a large bath with a seperate shower cubicle. Lots of shampoo, shower gel etc. Because the room was so large the heater didn't really do a suffient job. A call to Reception and a young lady immediately bought us a second heater. Our family got together to catch up on news and there was plenty of room for all 6 of us to sit around chatting. The other 2 doubles were a good size, next door to each other with a few steps from the main hotel. One of the rooms was lovely and warm, the other freezing! A second heater was requested and although it was in the room when they went back, the heater hadn't been switched on, so the room was still cold!
There is definitely an Indian influence with decor and ornaments. We were going to eat at the Restaurant within the hotel but the menu was quite limited. I am not an adventurous eater and there was no Chicken Korma! There were quite a number of people in there as we walked past so it goes to show that the food is good.
We ate a a pub across the road and it was typical 'pub grub'.
Kenilworth was a nice, friendly place with some shops open, even on Good Friday.
The breakfast was good. Freshly cooked to order, the young lady even made me 'real' porridge! A buffet of cereals, cheeses, juices, toast, yoghurts etc.
If we had to visit this area again I would have no hesitation in booking the 'Peacock Hotel'.
PS. The upgraded room had 32 lights/bulbs! Beautifully bright with 2 gorgeous crystal chandeliers.

We went to this hotel as it was near to the garage where we were purchasing a car. Unfortunately we left the directions to the garage behind and the receptionist was very helpful she not only looked it up but she went onto route finder and printed off directions for us. We also mentioned the tap in the bathroom was very stiff she promptly arranged for it to be fixed. The staff here were friendly and helpful and I would recommend it! I also asked for a surprise upgrade for my parents as it was approaching the anniversary of my mother receiving her MBE they not only did this but they upgraded it free of charge - how lovely is that!

Room Tip: Rooms in the stables are lovely and spacious
