we visited Stoneleigh Abbey whist in the area, and though it was a beautiful setting, we did the Jane Austen tour which was made very interesting by our guide, though only part of the magnificent house can be viewed it still gave a good insight. We had tea and cake in the orangery looking out over the river, again a good experience, not a lot of grounds to look around as much is under private ownership but it was still a lovely walk and nice surroundings, the stable block had been restored and was worth a look, the gatehouse was very impressive, not lots to do but worth a visit

Sunday 21st April 2013
Lovely sunny day but with a cold wind 12.5 degrees.
The approach through the park to Stoneleigh Abbey was delightful with clumps of daffodils among the trees on one side and sheep with black faced lambs in the field on the right.
A tour guide, in a dress of the Jane Austen period style, greeted us on the steps of the Abbey. Then followed a most interesting commentated walk through the rooms with the story of Jane Austen's visit to Stoneleigh Abbey and we realised how many parts of her novels had been inspired by the house and the lovely parkland that she loved. It was most interesting and we could perfectly imagine life in those times. After the visit afternoon tea and delicious cakes were taken in the Orangery. A very interesting and elegant tour. Thank you Shakespeare-Country Tourism for this great suggestion ............ I recommend it . Here is the website if you would like to see it for yourself. www.Shakespeare-Country.co.uk

Went to Stoneleigh Abbey for the first time today. It really is the most beautiful place to visit, grounds and house wonderful, so peaceful.
Staff are helpful and friendly, had a most interesting talk about the history of the Abbey, guide certainly very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Abbey!
I would definitely recommend a visit, and a trip into Kenilworth as well if you have time.

We only paid to see the grounds, but will possibly visit again in the future to take a tour of the house. It was blistering hot when we visited and delightfully, we were pretty much the only people there.

The grounds are superb and very well kept with grazing sheep to one side, a small area of woodland towards the back and a very pleasant cafe. It was a lovely place to spend a quiet afternoon in good weather.

The cafe was reasonably priced. Considering the type of place it is and its usual clientèle, it could have been a lot worse! The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we wanted before leaving us be.

Will definitely visit again in the future!
