“Big fluffy towels in a well layout, contemporary, room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

The room has been thoughtfully designed with contemporary furniture which works really well. The bathroom is spacious and has a reasonably generous bath.

Everything is immaculately clean with good storage.

OK – so the room was really nice. What about everything else?

Food: I rarely eat in the hotel restaurant, other than breakfast, but I had had a long day followed by a two hour cycle ride which reduced my sense of adventure. This turned out to be a blessing because the food there is absolutely fantastic, so much so that I ate in the restaurant on two evenings.

Breakfast was equally good with high quality ingredients cooked to perfection.
Anything else? Well yes, they managed to look after my road bike so I did not need to pull it to bits and put it in my boot.

Why did I stay here, the Holiday Inn was full which worked out very well for me, a boutique hotel with excellent food and cheaper. Fantastic.

Final point, the “rude” staff where nowhere to be seen.

Room Tip: Room 21 is good, save time by going down the fire exit to your car.

Stayed for the first time last night.

Had to wait a long time at reception, as other reviews indicated. Very clean rooms, lovely character.

We had a room next to the staff room and stair well. When we retired we were woken by the continual noise of the stairs and staff room next door. Due to such poor sound insulation you can hear what the staff are discussing in the office behind reception, which clearly they are not aware of. I note previous reviews note a room near reception with noise issues, if so the hotel has no excuse to be still letting a room where they know there is a serious sound issue.

To be fair the hotel did find us another berry quiet room in the middle of the night, but naturally our sleep was badly disturbed.

This was without question the worst room for noise I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world..

The situation was somewhat recovered by the really friendly receptionist on check out who organised a discount on the room. She was so friendly given our complaint .. This saved it in our eyes and we might return one day, but need some sleep first !!

Hotel .. Please please look at the sound insulation and trust me you can hear the intement nature of the conversations through the walls - try it for yourself if you disbelieve us.

Shame as such a lovely building.

Room Tip: Never ever ever ever let them give you room 2 !!! Trust us !

I have just returned from an overnight stay for work at Milsom's Hotel and there is only one word to describe it - DISSAPOINTED.
Arrival and first impressions were great - a lovely extension to the Loch Fyne restaurant. At reception we were allocated Room 2 - and now after reading other reviews the management should really look at this room and the reviews posted on here.
The room is a good size and well furnished - nothing amazingly special but nice touches and has the budget boutique design feel to it.
A fundemental of a hotel / B&B is being able to sleep - this was NOT POSSIBLE in Room 2.
The room is located right off the reception and next door to the Staff Office - with the main stairs to the rest of the bedrooms directly outside and leading above the bedroom.
The noise is nothing but unbelievable - when the door to the stairs opens it literally sounded as if someone was walking into the bedroom! Followed by a continous thumping as other guests walked, and talked up the stairs and along the bedroom corridor. This was bad enough - but coupled with being able to hear EVERYTHING through the walls from the Office next door - and the bedrooms above - including staff talking, TVs blaring, bathroom extract, bedroom doors and even wardrobe doors being shut.
After attempting to sleep for nearly 2 hours I had to get dressed and go to the "reception" and demand that we were moved to another room - my frustration and anger at this point was at boiling point - which the member of staff on duty could obviously see.
We were quickly allocated a new room - Room 1 - which was further down the corridor but completely silent! Unfortunately due to the hassle, stress and overall anger I felt it took me until after 2 am to sleep - and had to be up at 6am.

Breakfast was also dissapointing - the selection of Continental was verv limited and not what I was expecting to be honest. The staff member on duty was friendly and welcoming - but we were left with empty plates on our table for over 15 minutes after finishing - with only 1 other guest in the restaurant. The staff were too busy stood at the entrance talking about football with the manager on duty - customers were obviously not a priority. i was honestly shocked at the level of customer service.

On Check Out the receptionist was superb - we expained our dissapointment and anger at the room - and after some confusion where we were being asked to pay a UPGRADE charge for the new room -we had the room rate reduced. The receptionist helped resuce the situation for us and is a credit.

Overall I am very very dissapointed with the experience at Milsom's Hotel - I expected so much more. I am a regular traveller for work and have extensive experience of staying in hotels and this was without doubt the WORST nights sleep I have EVER experienced.

I regualrly travel and stay around Birmingham for work and sadly will NEVER be returning to Milsom's hotel.

If the management do read this review I have some advice - either invest in some serious sound insulation to Bedroom 2 - or remove this room and make it an office or Back of House area. This room is not a place where you can rest - it is insulting to expect people to pay to sleep in it.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 2 at all costs!!!

We had stayed at a Milsoms in Henly on Thames so it was with no hesitation that we decided to book the hotel in Kenilworth with our friends. A charming young lady answered the phone when I booked and offered me a deal without me having to ask. Arrived well before check in time and our rooms were ready. It was a lovely sunny afternoon so enjoyed a superb lunch outside. Our room was up a very narrow staircase but had everything we needed. Clean and with tea, coffee making etc. The bathroom had a bath with shower over and very nice products. We had dinner in the Loch Fyne restaraunt which was part of the deal and we all enjoyed our choices. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who took pride in their job. Had a good nights sleep and had a very good breakfast again with a good choice. Outstanding hospitality, all in all a lovely stay and look forward to trying the other MIlsom Hotels . Just wish there was a Loch Fyne in Salisbury!!

We booked three rooms for a weekend walking in the area. The rooms were a tad small, but we all agreed they were very comfortable. Had a great night's sleep. Enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the restaurant - had great fun chatting in French to the French waiter. Great idea to have motion sensor lights in the bathroom.

I reviewed this hotel in both March and December 2011, December being a nightmare trip where we were not allocated the booked disabled room and had the sprinkler system go off in the middle of the night. The hotel offered us a free return visit and last weekend we took them up on the offer as we were again visiting my husbands parents who live nearby.

We had been allocated Room 2 on the ground floor behind reception, the supposed disabled room which we should have been in on our last visit. I would say that this is not a disabled room, but rather a room they put disabled people in. Nice size bedroom and smartly furnished, although the standard lamp did not work so lighting was limited and only provided by two bedside lamps. Large bathroom but disappointing to note that the shower was over the bath, which you have to climb into, which is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

The room itself is located behind reception, under the stairs to the rest of the hotel bedrooms. We had a hideous nights sleep. First we were awoken by people outside the bathroom window, smoking, chatting loudly and the smoke residue seeping into the room. Regularly through the night people accessing the hotel were talking or shouting to each other very loudly whilst going up the stairs, or chatting on mobile phones. There is no signage to ask late guests to please be quiet and respect other guests who may be trying to sleep. This room being located under the stairs make it very noisy as you can hear every footstep.

The disabled parking space in the car park was inaccessible. First it is not situated in a good spot and secondly, because of other cars parked in unmarked spaces around it there was no room to manoeuvre to get into it so we had to give up on that and find somewhere to park overnight in the street. Again, not easy for someone with mobility problems.

On the plus side, the Loch Fyne restaurant is fantastic and we had a lovely evening meal and a good breakfast but we will not be staying in the hotel again - 3 attempts is enough!

Room Tip: Speak directly when booking to get a decent sized room or you will end up in something you can't...

Last May (2012),We spent a long weekend at this hotel . It was for a friends wedding and celebrations nearby.
Our ground floor room was clean and comfortable with en-suite bath.
The food was well cooked and delicious and we had a good choice.

This hotel is in a beautiful location, in the middle of a very pretty town with shops and castle at walking distance.
All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful .Nothing was too much trouble for them.
If ever we have cause to visit Kenilworth again, we would not hesitate to book in here.
