We turned up without booking as the restaurant we were heading for was full due to it being graduation week.

We ordered food and drinks straight away as we had our hungry tribe of kids with us.

Mussels to start were nice, although not the most generous of portions. The steaks for main course were absolutely beautiful.

I didn't catch our servers name, but she was absolutely great! Made a big effort with the children but remained professional. I hope she doesn't mind me saying that she speaks with an Irish/Northern Irish accent, this may help to narrow it down!!

All in all gorgeous food, fab service and a hundred quid very well spent!

Many thanks!

Although the place could do with a refurbishment, the food (steak and stroganoff) were very good and the service both excellent and friendly. What we will always remember though, is the odd music chosen for a restaurant. A few "bangin' choons" as I believe the youth of today would style them, followed by the theme tunes from Star Wars and The Big Country. All played slightly too loud.

We had a great evening. Recommended.

This review is for the afternoon tea. Or (given point one) maybe just the afternoon!

Firstly, you have to ask for tea. Having had our food plates delivered we assumed the tea was on its way - it wasn't. When we finally flagged down a waitress, she said we had to ask for it?!

Secondly, one mini pot of jam for each person on the table (in different flavours) - if 3 of you want strawberry, fight over it! We asked a waitress for more jam, expecting another selection plate, we got 2 jars (we were a large party of 15)...

Thirdly, the cakes - nothing special really. The funniest part was the battenberg - we think it was cut with a ham slicer! The pieces were a few mm's thick, you couldn't pick them up without them falling to bits - I think they must have run low and tried to share a small chunk between 15 people!

Finally, the service - we had to ask for everything, even though there were a few waitresses milling around the bar. Twice we actually went to the bar to order drinks as no one came to ask. The last time they took 20 minutes to arrive.

So so disappointing and a waste of £15 per head.

Like many hotels and restaurants in central Newcastle this lovely hotel is ruined by stag and hen parties on a mission to get as drunk as possible. Out the window goes any sense of sophistication or peacefulness so avoid this if you want a romantic meal or business dinner. The staff are also poorly trained - very little sense of upmarket customer focus. Our waiter asked if we enjoyed our prawn starters. When we said we had he commented the he used to like prawns until he discovered they ate faeces from the sea bed. You think I am joking? Some of the restaurant and bar staff seem to think they are working in a motorway burger van - they really do need very urgent refinement to deal with customers in the way expected nowadays in more upmarket establishments.
