“Seafood to die for....”

This place is a little gem. Fantastic seafood, great bottled beers and an excellent wine list. Highly recommended.

“Excellent.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

We didn't have a reservation but a table for 3 was quickly found despite a full house.
The food and service was superb with plenty on the menu for the non fish eaters.
Highly recommend a visit, with a reservation, and the "Toon" mussels were delicious.

“Average at best, for a seafood restaurant the seafood isn't great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

As a seafood lover, when I walked past this place earlier in the day, I decided that we must visit for dinner during our stay in Newcastle.
We ordered one of the large seafood pots to share, with a bottle of wine.
To be honest, although there was a sauce with the fish, the whole thing was a little bland and tasteless.
The band was a nice touch.
They pride themselves on a casual attitude to dining, there is a fine line between casual dining, and just rude and unwelcoming. At the moment, I feel the Big Mussel is the latter.

“Slow and uncaring service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

We arrived at 7.20pm and were given a table. We said we needed to leave at 8.30pm to go to a concert. this was "no problem" said the waiter.

At 8.00 pm we asked where our food was, the starter of cold fish arrived, it was very average and tasted as if it had been bought from a supermarket.

We waited until 8.20 for our main course, mussels and chips, still no food ! We asked a waitress who seemed to ask someone in the kitchen but she did not come back to us. We then asked a waiter who said it would come soon. We said we could not wait any longer and would have to leave. We paid £26.50 for the bottle of wine we had only drunk one third of left.

No one cared and when we asked to see the manager were told he was not in.

We have never left a restaurant under these circumstances before and could honestly say this was the worst dining experience we had ever had.
