Description: COOP Chicken House is located just a minutes walk from Newcastle's Central Station on Collingwood Street, dead opposite Revolution Vodka Bar and across the way from some of the town's most popular bars and clubs. We're all about simple food done well with a laid-back & non-fussy approach. Think tables full to bursting with wood-fired chicken, charred corn, sweet potato fries and homemade slaw washed down with a pint or two of the local brew. Whether you are looking to hire the whole venue (capacity 50), a large family booking, a table for two or a lone-wolf business type you'll be met with a warm welcome and some of the finest chicken around at COOP Chicken House. For groups of eight or more please contact us directly to book tables either by phone or email.

Decided on this new place after discussion with friends for early evening scran in Newcastle. Situated on Collingwood St, in the heart of the drinking district, this doesn't detract from it's style and unique decor.

Furnished with nice reclaimed tables and chairs, my girlfriend was immediately heartened by their wine list. Villa Maria at a reasonable £6.70 a large glass. One minor issue for me was no non alcoholic beers (please take note).

The menu centres on the pit rotisserie chicken available in quarters, halves or whole. Lightly marinaded and succulent, it's served with a large choice of sauces. From the mild coconut and lime to the disclaimer signing nuclear chilli sauce, there is something for everyone.

The sides are excellent, skin on fries, homemade slaw and all incredibly tasty. There were four in our party, the service was excellent and at £15 a head including drinks, we will be returning. I've even been invited to bring in my extreme chilli sauce for the chef to sample. Can't fault it.

We had an extremely satisfying lunch here, and were really impressed with all the elements during the meal. Beautifully cooked and presented whole chicken married well with the sides of fries, corn, and homemade coleslaw,to provide us with a great dining experience. It's not fine dining, but it is head and shoulders above the obvious high street brands like Nandos etc,and it could hold it's own with the likes of Tramshed in London. Well done,

We visited coop on a whim, we'd passed it a few times and thought "how is this different to Nandos?" ... I look back on that comparison and blush. It's like comparing the Fat Hippo (another local restaurant) to Burger King. There is no comparison.

The menu is just chicken. 1/4, 1/2 and whole... no seasoning options, no substitutes and when the chicken is this good, who needs more options?

Beautifully roasted chicken, seasoned to perfection and delivered with a smile. The flesh was beautiful, but the skin, oh my god the skin was delicious; crispy, flavorful, my mouth is watering just thinking about it again. The sides are great too, I'm not a fan of fries but coops fries might convert me! The salad was so fresh and dressed with a delicate touch it was almost as good as the corn on the cob. (If you've never had corn on the cob BBQ'd then make that your mission for tomorrow.)

We were accidentally served too much chicken, tried to send it back and the waiter (maybe manager) checked our order, realized it was their error and gave us the extra chicken for free. As they say the best things in life are free. ;)

They sell local ale & the bill was shockingly small. The atmosphere was great, there was fun music and quirky decor. Lovely staff and loyalty cards too... also instead on only stamping per visit they stamped per order, which was just a nice little touch. I can tell you now that our card will be full in no time!

Came for lunch with a group of colleagues. We shared two chickens and 8 slides together with a mix of sauces together with a range of artisan beers. Service was very friendly and efficient and food came quickly. The chicken was amazingly good and was further lifted by the sauces particularly the coconut one. Sides were good especially the special grilled vegetables with hallumi. We had a great time and everyone agreed this is definitely a restaurant that we will introduce friends to. Loved it
