“Lovely hotel, let down by bar service”
Reviewed May 6, 2014 via mobile

Stayed three nights here. Very nicely presented, and very convenient for the centre. We had a very pleasant room, and the staff were very friendly, especially the lady serving at breakfast. The only disappointing aspect was the bar: we went down for a drink, and there was nobody else there. The barman muttered something about going to get some change, and walked out without serving us and never came back. We decided to leave and go to the bar next door, and there he was, sitting at the hotel reception desk !

The website for this hotel makes the very best of what this hotel has to offer. The location is really handy - just 5 minutes walk from the station. The room was distinctly average though, and the bathroom was a little tired. It was perfectly adequate for one night, but if you are looking for something more luxurious, you could have stayed at the Malmaison or Sandman for the same price. The worst thing about the room was the ventilation - it was extremely hot and there was no way to open the external windows.

Stayed here on Saturday night (26th April) on arrival we were given a complimentary upgrade.
The room was really nice no nets on the windows but no problem for us as we were on the top floor.
Excellent value for money the staff were really professional and helpful, I would have no problem recommending this hotel.

We will be staying again

Stayed here for 2 nights for the Newcastle and Swansea game. Wasn't sure what to expect as I had read a couple of not so good reviews but what a gem of a hotel. Nearby parking (as advised by the hotel receptionist) was extremely reasonable. Hotel was in a fabulous location and the street it was on beautiful. Room was big and spacious with everything that was needed. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and nothing was enough trouble. We were also upgraded which was lovely. If I had to nit pick maybe some of the cleanliness could be slightly improved. However a fabulous hotel for an excellent price and if I'm ever back in Newcastle (and I really hope to come back) I will have absolutely no hesitation in re-booking this hotel. Oh and Swansea also won!!!!

Had a nicestay here. The location is excellent as Grey Street is a great place to be.The staff were very friendly and more than helpful. We upgraded to a deluxe as we were staying over after a very long flight. There was lovely extras in the room such as fancy buscuits and toiletries. But the one thing I look for when upgrading is a nice big comfy bed. Im afraid we had 2 single beds zipped together. It was an OK stay, but i feel the hotel isnt quite there yet for deluxe boutique standards. Could be an amazing hotel with a few more changes.

We are pleased to hear that you had a nice stay with us at the Grey Street Hotel and that you enjoyed the biscuits and toiletries. Sorry to hear that you did not find our beds overly comfortable, we are soon to have a refurb so will take your comments into account so we can hopefully meet the deluxe boutique standards. We hope that you will visit us again soon.

Stayed here in Feb, excellent location, very friendly reception staff. My partner and I were staying as a late Valentines and attending a 30th in South Shields. Due to the "romantic" occasion we were upgraded to a suite upon check in and received complimentary drinks. The hotel is brilliantly located close to the quayside, train and metro stations and the city centre, and the suite was very nice. The only possible downside was the nightclub noises close-by, however with the location it is expected. I would stay again, very reasonable price and good quality!

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review :) We are pleased that you enjoyed your late Valentines break with us. Yes, due to our fab city centre location there can sometimes be an issue with external noise, however we are pleased that you are aware that because of the location this cannot be helped. We hope to see you again soon.

Stayed here for two nights whilst visiting my Student daughter. I was given room 3 on the first floor, which overlooks the crossroads /traffic lights, and as previously stated, Newcastle is a city that rarely sleeps! Whilst my visit was on a Sunday/Monday, you may have thought they would be the quieter nights!? No stag/hen do's fortunately , but still plenty of high spirits well into the wee small hours. The room was large, airy and the bed comfortable. I thought the public areas/stairwells etc looked tired and in need of refreshment.I asked for a bulb to be replaced, it wasn't done sadly. The car parking worked well as the NCP is but a few metres away and it is free from 5pm-8am.
The staff were lovely, the night porter extremely helpful, the room maids extremely polite and the gorgeous Polish lady at the reception (Sachka ??) went over and above the call of duty when my phone charger didn't work. She was able to provide me with a different plug/lead etc and in the end I used her office's power point as mine in the room appeared to be faulty! She also told me of the renovation plans for the Hotel, which makes sense as it is definately needed to bring it up to the 4 star standard it boasts.
p.s. one small point , the info pack in the room was so cheap and nasty, please change it!
