Blue Moon is a relatively new Chinese restaurant, a short walk from the City Centre on George Street, so you would be forgiven for not knowing of its existence (there's been a distinct lack of advertising).
Anyway, the restaurant is very cosy and pleasant, with a bunch of karaoke rooms upstairs if you're into that sort of thing. However, we didn't make use of these rooms as we were there purely for food. Good word of mouth about the food led us to the doors of Blue Moon where we were greeted like old friends.
The menu is packed, featuring the usual dishes you'll find at every other Chinese venue, but also included dishes little seen elsewhere. We ordered a stack of dishes, the best if which was a Taiwanese dish that translated as "three cup chicken" which refers to the three key ingredients: sesame oil, Chinese rice wine, and soy sauce added in equal ratio. This dish was incredibly tasty and came as a welcome surprise considering that it looked pretty much like every other Chinese chicken dish.
Dishes are also huge, the prawn dish we ordered actually featured full sized King Prawns rather than the tiny ones you get elsewhere. Best of all, the dishes cost no more than you'd pay elsewhere, yet you get more food for your money. Brilliant.
An interesting fact is that Blue Moon serves Halal, unlike the majority of similar venues, a fact not lost on my Muslim friends, one of whom promptly booked a table to dine on halal duck! He loved it by the way.
Blue Moon is a hidden gem and well worth seeking out.
