We went here on a Saturday evening.
We did not have a reservation, so we were told that we would have to wait 10-15 minutes, which was OK with us.
We headed off to the local off-license, got some booze and came back.
After waiting 30 minutes, it was apparent that we had been forgotten despite we were in the waiting area and I was doing my best to look as hungry as I possibly could.
We were seated, orders were taken.
poppadoms were good, the deep fried varied rather than the dry fried ones.
Starters were OK. Mixed pakoras and samosas I liked. OH had the lamb chops, she said they were tough (mutton rather than lamb perhaps?).
Waiting for mains, I get told that there were no king prawns left. Hold on, I ordered these an hour ago and your only just telling me?.. Something tells me a regular customer got the priority here!
My balti (with regular rather than king prawns) was good. I liked it, although it was a bit hotter than I was expecting.
OH had some chicken dish, she thought it was over spiced, there was something in there that was basically killing all the flavours.
Have to say, Kamal does the best naan bread I have ever eaten, they were just awesome.
Staff were very good, friendly, and not overly attentive.
I'd have given it a 3 1/2 if possible. It was above average.
I'd go back if I get to Newcastle again.
