Called here for a drink with family & friends, there are lots of coffee shops to choose from in the area but we plumped for 9 Bar Coffee as they advertised ' the best cheese & onion toastie' and it's a small independent company. However we didn't want a toastie only a drink, ordered a latte & two hot chocolates, which were a little on the dear side but I expected they would be worth it. How wrong could I be? The latte was served in a very small juice glass - remember those you had for your lunch water at school? that's what it came in. The hot chocolates had a pretty design on top but were lukewarm, as was the latte.
Overall a disappointing experience and one we won't be repeating anytime soon.
I don't think we were the only disappointed customers as the part of Americans on the next table advised loudly they would be going across to Corta for further coffee.

Been here twice in last week. The Di Giorgio family know what they are doing - thank you. A great independent cafe with simple delicious snacks and the best coffee in Newcastle. And I love the guy behind the counter with the fantastic black, shiny hair.

The best coffee in Newcastle. Stylish and lovely to watch the world go by on a sunny day. Dreams of the Italian Rivera. Food looks amazing too. We tried a delicious apricot tart. Yummmmmy indeed

9 Bar is a welcome change from the hoards of coffee shop chains in Newcastle. It serves excellent, rich coffee (if you're going to have a Flat White anywhere, have one here) and well prepared Italian snacks. It's a little pricey, I'd say, but worth it when you consider what you pay in other places which aren't as nice.
The only downside is that it can get busy during lunchtimes, which means that if you visit later in the day, there's a good chance you won't get your first choice from the menu. But that's not exactly the worst thing that could happen, because the alternative is generally just as good.
The décor inside is pleasant, with 'vintage-style' self promotional posters on the walls and there's lots of windows, which lights the place well; these make it seem airy, despite it actually being quite small.
Overall it's a good place for coffee and to meet with friends. As for "the best cheese toastie in the world"... I'm not sure it's he very best ever, but its pretty good!

This place is brilliant. It is tiny but the food is excellent Italian cafe food that you have never heard of! The novel way of putting food together into a dish is really a welcome break from the chains. There are books to read when you have finished reading about all the things on the menu. This is a quiet place for the rejuvenating lunchbreak retreat. And in the summer you get to eat outside right on the beautiful Grey Street!
