“Staff spot on!”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

Having only discovered The Stand by accident when we were seeing a show there, we have yet to enjoy it's much talked about grub. However, I can't praise the ambience and the staff enough, and we're already planning our first visit to eat properly!

“Superb food, superb price”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

This was my third visit to the bistro and it has never failed to impress. The food is pleasantly different to most of the restaurants in Newcastle. It is of superb quality, well presented with excellent flavours and all at good value prices.
On this visit we went for a late lunch. Surprisingly for such an excellent place it was relatively quiet although one of the positives about the place is the broad range of customers.....businessmen on a working lunch, ladies who lunch, students using the free wifi, christmas shoppers and others who have discovered this gem of a restaurant. But it does not matter which category you are in everyone receives a warm, friendly welcome from the staff who are all chatty, helpful and completely unpretentious.
The food...we had king prawns in tempura batter with chilli jam. The prawns were fantastic. For main courses we had Pad Thai with sweet potato and mushrooms and the second choice of breadcrumbed turkey with date and tomato curry and sticks rice. Both meals were excellent, fantastic flavours and very well presented. A shared sweet of christmas pud crime brûlée ensured we were full and impressed.
The autumn menu is excellent value, please go and give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

“Cosy venue with high quality food at a good price”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We've been here twice now and on both occasions the food was excellent. They run an early bird menu for people who order before 7pm, priced at £14 for three courses. The menu accommodates one and two courses but I can't remember the cost.

The venue has been tastefully decorated and creates a really cosy atmosphere. It's the kind of place I would feel comfortable taking a book and settling in for the afternoon or evening or meeting friends for drinks. It accommodates well to all tastes.

The food is fresh, well cooked, flavoursome, and the right portion size. The menu offers a range of dishes with a fusion influence. On my last visit I had rib eye steak, as part of the £14 deal! It was absolutely wonderful.

The staff are friendly and the service is good.

I think if I was to give this great venue and kind of developmental feedback it would be to focus improvement on the desserts. Although they were nice, they lacked the same impact the starters and mains had. The chef clearly has talents in Asian influenced dishes and this perhaps doesn't transfer into his/her puddings.

On a final note, after our last visit, we were running late for the comedy show so quickly paid our bill. It wasn't until we got home that we realised it was quite high and because it wasn't itemised, we can only put that down to the drinks being overpriced.

“A welcoming venue with good food and lovely staff.”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

I've been here lots of times with friends, family and different groups and it's always been good. The decor is understated and attractive and the only problem may be that you might not get a seat. The coffee is always excellent and the menu is changed regularly, which is fine, except for the fact you lose some favourites along the way. There are papers to read and there is an extensive area outside to sit in the warmer weather - not that we see much of that up here!

“Deserves the number 1 spot”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

We visited The Stand Bistro on Saturday night prior to a gig at the O2. I chose The Stand because of its TA rating and because it was convenient, both in geography and the timing of service. Everything was perfect. Our table was ready for us on arrival and the service throughout the evening was friendly, knowledgable, and relaxed. Just as it should be. On the advice of the waiter we tried a new gin and tonic combination and he helped my wife choose her main course with a very articulate description of the Thai inspired turkey dish. The food was excellent and great value. My rib-eye was cooked perfectly, always a gamble when trying somewhere new. All in all the meal set us up for a great evening. Highly recommended - we will definately visit when next in Newcastle.

Thanks for your kind words, we're doing our best to make sure the bistro keeps you well fed and satisfied with every return visit. Next time, why not pop down to the venue and catch a show, the comedy venue strives for the same level of quality as the bistro.
