Initially had intended to have a lunch in Electric East on sat 5th Jan - but turned up at 12.30 to find it closed - despite the fact that it's website stated they were open on a Saturday lunchtime - the sign on its door said they were only open on a Friday for lunch. Worth checking with a phone call if you intend to eat there!! So plan B, a stroll down to the quayside to seek out Old Siam.

Very pleased that our original restaurant choice was closed. There were no other diners when we arrived at about 1 pm but we were welcomed and given a table In the window. Staff were polite, helpful and very friendly. We decided on the Old Siam platter to start then a chicken panang and a seafood massaman for main with steamed coconut rice. All the food was superb and beautifully presented. Try the Monsoon Valley Thai red wine. Perfect. Only a few other diners came in when we were there but I put this down to being only a few days after all the new year festivities. Well worth a visit and we will definately be returning to try it on an evening.

It was our first experience of Thai cuisine and it certainly will not be the last. The restaurant looks small from the outside but has ample seating upstairs also. The chicken satay starter was beautiful and friends raved about their mixed starter too.
We dont like overly spicy food so both the massaman and yellow curries were a good choice and tasted beautiful, I would definetly reccommend them both. The beef and onion stirfry in red wine was delicious too with the beef being very tender. The coconut rice was light and fluffy, I have never tasted rice so good, and of course washed down with a good Thai white wine made this meal our best whilst in Newcastle between Christmas and New Year.

Enticed into booking a table by the menu. Went here early evening and it was full of customers already. Nice decor inside and the staff were excellent, polite and attentive. Our food was both delicious and served in good time, on a starter and main I was stuffed! Will definitely be back to sample more of the menu.

One of the best meals I've had in Newcastle. Got the set menu to share as we wanted to try a bit of everything and it was all brilliant. On first glance of the menu you may think its a little on the expensive side but its reflected in the quality of the food - and the portions aren't small either. Excellent service too. Make sure you book in advance.
